Solved Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Not Charging With Grey Lightning Bolt

Note 5 Not Charging With Grey Lightning Bolt
Problem: Hi, I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and it’s about a year old. It’s been working perfectly fine up until last night when it died of low battery but then wouldn’t charge. When I plug it in, the grey battery symbol with a lightning bolt pops up for about 5 seconds and then disappears. No matter how long I left it in the charger, it never began to charge. I tried different cables, wall outlets, and my laptop usb ports. I left it off all night and then in the morning plugged it into the wall and it was charging. I unplugged after 100% and used it for a bit. Tried to plug it in to check it was still working, no luck. Back to not charging. I’ve been able to successfully get it to take a charge 3 times now but all randomly with no commonalities and with many failed attempts between. The only consistency is when it is off and I plug it in, the grey battery symbol with lightning bolt comes up for a few seconds and then disappears. I haven’t dropped it recently or has it ever experienced water damage apart from maybe a bit of snow got on it while I was taking a picture? Not sure if it’s a battery issue or charging port issue or a hardware one.
Solution: Try cleaning the charging port of your phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure to check the port for any presence of dirt or debris and make sure that it gets removed. Once this is done try charging the phone again. In case the issue persists even after using different charging cords and wall chargers then this is most likely a hardware problem already possibly caused by a faulty charging port, power IC, or battery. The best way to pinpoint the exact cause of this problem is to have the phone checked at a service center.
Note 5 Stuck In Boot Loop
Problem: HI, I have Note 5 that has grown a mind of its own. A quick list of random things it is currently doing.
- Stuck in boot loop
- Won’t start in safe mode.
- Rapid battery drain.
I have tried to reinstalling the firmware but “Odin3 and Kies3” show the error message “not compatible with this device”, which now takes me to nougat. I can’t get anywhere with that! The one time the phone did boot up, I was able to do it through the maintenance boot mode. The normal boot worked…. “one time.” Not since. It is stuck in a boot loop and will not come out. So here is what I have been able to do. It will go into Download and Maintenance modes, so I have wiped the cache, and when that didn’t work, I factory reset it. It is running 7.0 I found out, and with the bountiful issues associated with Nougat, I think is probably best served as a boat anchor. Having said all that, I am wondering, could this be a bad battery issue? From stone cold dead, it will show a 100% charge in just minutes, then back to 0%, then it will flash what I can only assume is the current charge amount, then start it all over again, so I am never really sure what the charge is. It is drawing 1.25 to 1.76W at 5A and slowly ramps down after what seems an eternity. During the charging process, it will constantly try to reboot itself flashing the battery charge percentage as well. My only other guess would be the PMIC. Any thoughts?
