Samsung Patents ‘Bright Night’ Camera Feature for the Galaxy S11

A new Samsung patent filed at European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) discusses a new camera feature that could be front and center with upcoming Samsung smartphones and tablets in 2024. Known as “Bright Night“, it seems like this feature will pertain to night-time photography, something that almost every mobile manufacturer is currently focusing on. It is worth mentioning that Samsung already has a feature to advance night-time photography, known simply as Night mode, which was sent out to Samsung’s flagships earlier this year.

Previous reports have also discussed the possibility of the Galaxy S11 using a 108MP camera, so Bright Night could have something to do with this new sensor. This patent listing indicates that Samsung is looking to make Bright Night a hardware feature and not just limiting it to software trickery.

It is also rumored that the Galaxy S11 will use a five-sensor camera layout including a periscope sensor capable of 5X optical zoom. Other features like 8K video recording, laser autofocus and several more have also been tipped for the 2020 Samsung flagship. While the patent filing for Bright Night doesn’t really shed light on what it may bring to the table, it does give an indication of what to expect, especially considering the rumors and leaks we’ve encountered on the subject so far.

While the camera department has never really been a concern for Samsung and its flagship smartphones, the company clearly needs to up its game with the arrival of the Apple iPhone 11 Pro that has won pretty decent reviews so far.
