S7 Stopped Receiving Text Messages

Problem: Hi, Recently my phone just stopped receiving text messages from anyone outside my own area code. I can send texts fine to different area codes than mine, just cannot receive them. It took a while to figure this out. I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 and my provider is Sprint. Neither Sprint or Samsung can figure out why this is happening. Have checked all settings thoroughly, reset phone, took out battery and SIM card and reinstalled, etc. Nothing works. Have you heard of this Before? I need help!

Solution: Since a factory rest fails to fix this problem then this might already be an account related issue. Try using a different SIM card in your phone then check if you are still experiencing the same problem. If the issue does not occur when a new SIM is inserted then I recommend that you have your account checked at Sprint.

S7 No Sound When Receiving Texts And Calls

Problem: Hi. Lately my s7 can receive texts and calls but there is no sound. I checked all sounds (ringtone, media, notification, and system) all were on max level but still no sound. My keyboard still has the clicks sound though. But all other notifications don’t. I also don’t have sounds when i send or receive messages on messenger(fb). When i try playing videos on youtube, it says playback error. Then clips on facebook, Twitter, and instagram don’t play at all (either they are on forever loading or play the pause immediately). Also during this time, the alarm doesn’t work. But some system sounds are heard (like keyboard clicks and the sound when you click the volume button). I can still record and access the camera and there are camera shutter sounds. Screenshots make sounds too. This sound problem disappears when i reset (power off then turn on) my phone. Then suddenly happens all again at some point of usage, usually when internet disconnects reconnects a bunch of times because of service/bad signal/weak signal. Please help. This has been happening since the latest update. Thank you so much

Solution: If the issue temporarily disappears when you restart your phone then this could be caused by a software glitch. Follow the troubleshooting steps listed below to fix this problem.

  • Start the phone in Safe Mode. When the phone is started in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run. Does the problem still occur in this mode? If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Try wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S7 Text Notification Icon Missing In Lock Screen

Problem: On my lock screen I have, The digital time, A calendar, And some icons below the calendar. Now missing is the icon that shows when a new Text Message comes in and how many.  Can you tell me the steps to bring this very important gizmo back? Anther tech and myself have worked on this for hours.

Solution: The first thing that you should do in this particular case is to make sure that you are using the stock Samsung messaging app. If you are using a third party messaging app then the notifications on the lock screen might not work.

You also need to make sure that the notification settings of your phone are correctly set.

Settings > Notifications > Advanced > Messages

  • Allow notifications: On
  • Set as priority: On
  • Preview in pop-ups: On
  • Hide on Lock screen: Off
  • Hide content on lock screen: Off
  • Preview message: On

S7 Not Receiving Text Messages

Problem: Hi My samsung s7 has been receiving texts with no problems but this afternoon I haven’t received any even though people have sent a text to me but I can send texts and people do receive them. I have tried what people have said on forums but nothing has worked any solutions

Solution: The first thing that you need to do in this particular case is to turn off the phone then remove the SIM card. After a minute reinsert the SIM card then turn on the phone. This procedure will re-establish the connection of your phone to the network. Once the phone is on check if it is getting a signal. Send yourself a text message then check if you can receive the text message.

If you are not receiving the text message that you sent to yourself then you should follow the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Start the phone in Safe Mode. When your phone operates in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are prevented from running. If the problem does not occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S7 Messages Only Downloads When Connected To Wi-Fi

Problem: Just got a Galaxy S7 and when people send me a text, I get the notification, but all the message says is “download” and when I hit download, it just sits and does nothing.  As soon as I get somewhere with WiFi, I receive all my text messages.  What can I do to fix this?

Solution: The problem could be cause by the following factors.

  • The mobile data switch of your phone is turned off. Just turn this switch on to fix the problem.
  • You don’t have an  active mobile data subscription. Check with your carrier regarding this matter
  • Your phone has an incorrect APN setting. Change the APN setting of your phone to match that of your carrier.

S7 Fail To Send Text Message Error But Message Gets Sent

Problem: For the past two days I’ve been having problems sending and receiving texts. The texts I’m sending will fail so I’ll resend and then the person I’m texting will receive the same text multiple times. I also will receive multiple texts of the same text. I do know there was a software update a few days ago. Does it have something to do with this? Is there a fix?

Related Problem: I have a Galaxy S7, got nougat a week ago. Now all my SMS show as failed to send but send to the recipient 3 or 4 times. And when I receive a text it come in 3-4 times I’ve deleted all the messages and cleared the cache. I use the native messaging app.

Related Problem: I have a new galaxy s7. everything is working fine except for the messaging. yesterday messages began to spun and delay. Then I get an !ERROR message. Eventually it goes out but people are getting my messages multiple times and 5 minutes later. I have tried soft reset, cleaned out old messages. No Go.

Solution: The first thing that you should do in this particular case is to restart your phone. This allows your device to re-establish its connection to the network. Once the phone has fully started check if the signal is good then try sending out a text message. If the issue still persists then follow the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Clear the cache and data of the text messaging app.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S7 Unable To Set Up Account, Authentication Failed Error

Problem: Keep getting “Unable to set up account, authentication failed”. The password is correct. I have tried verizon.net and verizon.yahoo to set up. It used to be on the phone but we lost access for no reason months ago. Even went to Verizon store and they could not help us! Wife has S7 and I have S5. I was able to set up gmail account on my phone to access email. But can’t get Verizon email to work. I couldn’t get wife’s phone to use gmail though.

Solution: you will need to make sure that the Verizon email password is working and correct by accessing your webmail at https://webmail.verizon.com . If you are unable to access the webmail then you should ask assistance from Verizon to reset your email password.

If you are able to access the account from the webmail then you should check your email settings on the phone .
