S4 Does Not Charge

Problem: Hi there I am using a Samsung Galaxy s4. Up until today my phone has been working brilliant its 3 years old, never been dropped. I was making a phone call and was on the phone a good ten minutes until my phone went completely dead. As I’ve gone to charge my device nothing happened I normally get a small red light to show that it’s charging. I’ve tried too different chargers in loads of different wall sockets but still nothing. Could this be my battery or my phone. It’s never done anything like this before. Just hoping it’s fixable As I really like this device. PLEASE help. Many thanks and kind regards.

Solution: Try checking your phone charger port for any signs of dirt or debris. This usually interferes with the charging process and may be causing this issue. If necessary, clean the charging port of your phone with a cotton bud dipped in alcohol.

If you are using the same USB charging cord for the different chargers you used in charging your phone then this cord may be causing the problem. This cord gets easily damaged especially if it is coiled or bent constantly. Try using a different USB cord.

There are also cases when a glitch in your phone software can cause this problem. To check if this is the case take out your phone battery and the microSD card as well if you have one installed. Press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This discharges your phone circuit and clears out the RAM. Reinsert just the battery then try to turn on your phone. If it does not turn on then let it charge for at least 20 minutes. After 20 minutes with your phone still connected to the wall charger try to turn it on.

If your phone still does not turn on then you should try to replace your battery with a new one.

If the issue persists after replacing the battery then you should bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

S4 Will Not Charge

Problem: My phone will not charge or turn on. When I plug the charger in the phone will vibrate for a second the battery picture shows up with the circle (thinking/loading) thing and will go off after about ten seconds. Nothing happens after that except it will vibrate every 10-15 seconds and do the screen thing again.

Solution: Try taking out the battery and microSD card of your phone first then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. This discharges your phone circuit and clears out its RAM. Reinsert just the battery first then try to turn on your phone.

If your phone does not turn on then connect it to its wall charger for at least 20 minutes then turn it on.

You should also try to start your phone in recovery mode then wipe its cache partition.

If the issue persists proceed with checking the charging port of your phone for any signs of dirt or debris. Presence of any foreign matter on the charging port can interfere with the charging process. If necessary, clean this port using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol.

If the issue persists then you should try using a new battery since your phone battery may already be defective.

If your phone still does not turn on or charge  with the new battery installed then I suggest you bring your device to an authorized service center for checking as this may already be a hardware related problem.

S4 Won’t Charge

Problem: Hi, yesterday my phone could barely respond but it did let me to do a cache partition and it worked fine after that I thought then I went to sleep and when I woke up it won’t charge or it won’t respond at all! I don’t know what to do!

Solution: Take out your phone battery and microSD card if you have one installed. Press and hold the power button for at least a minute to clear out your phone’s RAM and discharge its circuits. Reinsert just the battery for now then try to turn on your phone.

If your phone does not turn on then connect it to its wall charger and let it charge for at least 20 minutes. It would be better to use a different USB cord when charging your phone as this cord gets easily damaged. After 20 minutes have passed try turning on your phone.

If your phone does not charge or turn on then try using a different wall charger.

Try checking your phone charging port for any presence of dirt or debris. If you spot any then clean the port using a can of compressed air or cotton bud dipped in alcohol.

If you can enter your phone’s recovery mode then do it and wipe its cache partition again. If you have recently made a backup of your phone data then I also recommend doing a factory reset.

You should also try using a new battery on your device as the one you are using may already be defective.

If the above troubleshooting steps fail to resolve the problem then I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center as this may already be a hardware related problem.

S4 Charge Drains Quickly

Problem: I have been having problems since yesterday. It started with the phone charge dying very rapidly.  I am trying a new battery now to see if that it the issue.  It still seems to be draining quickly though. The next issue is that the system is very slow and not sending or receiving any messages, and when it does, it isn’t until hours later.  It will say it is sending, but will have that circle going around like it is in the process of sending. It also stopped locking when I pressed the power button, but I figured out how to fix that.  And is also stopped connecting to anything other than wifi, but I figured out how to fix that also.  I didn’t touch anything for those 2 things to stop working like they did. I’m hoping that there is something else that I can do to get this phone working asap! I just woke up yesterday and it crapped out on me!! Please help me if you can! Thank you

Solution: The battery drain issue and the slow operation of your phone could be both related. These issues can be caused by some form of corrupt data in your phone. To properly resolve this I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S4 Does Not Charge When Phone Is On

Problem: My phone is unable to charge while it is on therefore I have  to turned it off. There is no indication of the phone fully charged.

Solution: Make sure to use the original wall charger when charging your phone. You need to eliminate several factors that can cause this type of problem. First is the USB cord since it gets damaged easily and if the cord you are using is damaged it can cause this problem. Second, try to check if your phone battery is causing this problem by replacing it with a new one. Third, the charger itself may be defective. If this is the case then replace it. Fourth, if this issue is caused by a software problem then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

If the issue still persists after following the above troubleshooting steps then this may already be a hardware related problem. I suggest you bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.

  1. My S4 would not take charge. I found spade terminal in charge port bent down, straightened it with a toothpick. Works fine now.
