Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus shows “Unfortunately, Internet has stopped”

The error message “Unfortunately, Internet has stopped” that seems to be bugging some owners of the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus means that the default web browser has crashed. Most of the time, when this error shows up, it could only be a problem with the app itself but since it’s a pre-installed application, it could also mean that there’s a problem with the firmware itself. It’s possible that the app crash is just a result of a firmware issue.

Fixing Internet has stopped error on Galaxy S10 Plus

We have encountered this problem several times in the past and we can assure you that it’s not really a serious problem. In fact, you may be able to fix it after doing a couple of procedures but we need to be thorough in our troubleshooting. So, I will give you the solutions that could potentially get rid of the error message below…

First solution: Force restart your phone first

As I said earlier, Internet is a pre-installed application and if it crashes, it could be due to a very minor system glitch or issue with the firmware. With that in mind, it’s better to begin our troubleshooting with a force restart to refresh your phone’s memory as well as reload all its apps and services.

  1. Press and hold the volume down button and don’t release it.
  2. While holding the volume button, press and hold the power key as well.
  3. Keep both keys held down together until the Galaxy S10+ logo shows on the screen.

Once the phone has successfully rebooted after doing this procedure, open the app and see if the Internet has stopped error still pops up. If it still does, then move on to troubleshooting the app itself.

Second solution: Clear cache to fix Internet has stopped error

Every app on your phone has its own cache–a collection of several small files that’s used by the system to make apps run smoothly–and it’s possible that it has been corrupted for some reason. Such case would also result to an app crash and it could be the reason why the default web browser crashes on your device. Here’s how you address that:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  2. Tap the Settings icon at the top-right corner.
  3. Scroll down and tap Apps.
  4. Find and tap on Internet.
  5. Tap Clear cache.

After this, open the app and see if the Internet has stopped error still shows up. If it does, then do the next solution.

Third solution: Clear the data of the Internet app

After clearing the cache and the Internet has stopped error continues to pop up, the next thing you have to do is delete its data files. This will delete all your bookmarks, browsing history and whatnot but it can potentially fix this problem especially if it’s just limited to the app only. If you have important bookmarks or data, you might as well sync them with your Google account so you can restore them after this procedure.

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  2. Tap the Settings icon at the top-right corner.
  3. Scroll down and tap Apps.
  4. Find and tap on Internet.
  5. Tap Clear data and tap OK to confirm your action.

After this, restart your phone to refresh its memory and then try using the app. If the Internet has stopped error continues to show, then move on to the next solution.

Fourth solution: Delete the system cache

Android creates caches for all the apps and services but it also creates an app for the system itself. When that cache get corrupted, it will result to performance issues which also include app crashes. We are now troubleshooting the firmware because it’s possible that the problem you’re experiencing is just a result of a firmware issue. And here’s how you do it:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Galaxy S10+ logo shows, release all buttons.
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
  5. Press Power key to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

It may take a little time to reboot as it will rebuild the cache but once the phone becomes active, open the app and see if the Internet has stopped error message still greets you. If it does, then you have no other choice but to reset your phone.

Fifth solution: Backup your files and reset your phone

After doing the procedures above and the Internet has stopped error still bugs you, then it’s time to reset your phone. A reset will be able to fix any software-related problems provided that the firmware hasn’t been modified. However, before the reset, make sure to create a backup of your important files and data as they will be deleted during the process. After the backup, remove your Google and Samsung accounts so that you won’t be locked out of your device after the reset. Once everything is set, follow these steps to reset your phone:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Galaxy S10+ logo shows, release all buttons.
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key to highlight Yes.
  7. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  8. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.
