Fixing Galaxy S10 Plus with “Phone has stopped” error

App crashes are not really serious problems as there are times when some services stop working which would result to a crash either by the firmware or one of the apps. Needless to say, you may be able to fix this problem on your own without taking a trip to a shop or back to the store. However, you would need to perform some basic troubleshooting procedures and here are the things you need to do:

First solution: Force restart your phone

Before doing any of the troubleshooting procedures below, the best thing you can do about this problem is to force restart your device especially if this problem occurred without apparent reason or cause. It’s because it could be just a minor issue with the firmware or even just a glitch. The forced reboot will refresh your phone’s memory as well as reload all its apps and services and here’s how you do it:

  1. Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet.
  2. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well.
  3. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy S10 Plus logo shows on the screen.

Once the device has rebooted successfully, open the Phone app to see if the error “Phone has stopped” still crashes. If it still does, then move on to the next solution.

Second solution: Clear the cache of the Phone

It’s possible that the cache used by the system to make Phone run smoothly has been corrupted. When this happens, the app might crash and in this case, you get the Phone has stopped error. To rule this possibility out, follow these steps:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  2. Tap the Settings icon at the top-right corner.
  3. Scroll down and tap Apps.
  4. Find and tap on Phone.
  5. Tap Clear cache.

After doing this, try using the phone and see if the Phone has stopped error would still show up and if it still does, then move on to the next solution.

Third solution: Delete the data files of the Phone app

Doing this will reset the Phone back to its default settings and configuration. If this is just an app issue, then this procedure will be able to fix the problem. Don’t worry though, none of your videos and pictures will be deleted if you did this. It’s just the settings that will be reverted back to default. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  2. Tap the Settings icon at the top-right corner.
  3. Scroll down and tap Apps.
  4. Find and tap on Phone.
  5. Tap Clear data and tap OK to confirm your action.

Reboot your phone after doing this procedure to refresh the memory. Once the phone has rebooted successfully, open the Phone to know if the Phone has stopped error still shows up. If it still does, then move on to the next solution.

Fourth solution: Wipe cache partition

It is important that you perform this troubleshooting method because the Phone has stopped error could be just a result of a corrupt system cache. Doing this procedure will delete the old cache and replace it with a new one and this one has been among the most effective procedures in fixing any sort of firmware issues including app crashes. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Galaxy S10+ logo shows, release all three keys.
  4. Your Galaxy S10 Plus will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
  6. Press Power key to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
  8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

After the phone has restarted, try opening the app and see if the Phone has stopped error still shows up and if it still does, try the next solution.

Fifth solution: Backup important files and reset your phone

At this point, a master reset is necessary. It will bring the phone back to its default settings and configuration because it’s very much possible that the app crash is a result of a serious firmware issue. A reset should be able to fix any firmware-related problems. However, make sure to create a copy of your important files and data as they will all be deleted. After the backup, make sure to remove your google and samsung accounts so that you won’t be locked out. When everything is ready, follow these steps to reset your phone:

  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.
