Fixing Galaxy S10 Plus with “My Files has stopped” error

First solution: Do the Forced Restart
If it’s the first time that you encountered the My Files has stopped error, then it’s probably just a minor issue with the firmware or even just a glitch. The first thing that you have to do is the simulated battery removal. It will refresh your phone’s memory as well as reload all the applications and services. If the problem is as minor as we thought it is, then this procedure is more than enough to fix it. Here’s how you do it:
- Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet.
- While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well.
- Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy S10 Plus logo shows on the screen.
Once the phone has successfully rebooted, open the app and see if My Files has stopped error still shows up. If it still does, then try the next procedure.

Second solution: Clear cache and data of the app
Doing this procedure will reset the app but don’t worry, none of your files will be deleted. The first part will be to delete the cache of the app which has a tendency to get corrupted and the second part is to reset the app to bring it back to its default settings and configuration. - Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
- Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
- Scroll to and then tap Apps.
- Find and tap My Files.
- Tap Storage.
- Tap Clear cache.
- Touch Clear data and then tap OK to confirm.
After this, it’s best to reboot your phone to refresh its memory again. And then try to open the app to see if the error “My Files has stopped” still shows up and if it still does for some reason, it’s time to troubleshoot the firmware.
Third solution: Delete the system cache
Just like app caches, the system cache can also get corrupted and when it happens, performance issues may occur including app crashes. You have to delete the cache so that it will be replaced with a new one and to do that, you have to start the phone in recovery mode and wipe the cache partition from there. For you to be guided accordingly, follow these steps:
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the Galaxy S10+ logo shows, release all three keys.
- Your Galaxy S10 Plus will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
- Press Power key to select.
- Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
- When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
It will take a little time for your phone to boot up after this procedure but wait for it to become active and then try to see if the problem still occurs. If the error “My Files has stopped” still pops up, then you have no other choice but to reset your phone.

Fourth solution: Backup important files and reset your phone
Here’s the thing, if the firmware hasn’t been modified in any way, a reset will be able to fix this problem. It’s the ultimate solution for all app and firmware issues. However, we are hesitant to suggest it without first exhausting all possible solutions as you may lose some of your files and data. But at this point, you have no other choice but to reset your phone. Therefore, make sure to create a backup of your important files and data as they will be deleted. After which, remove both your google and samsung accounts so that you won’t be locked out of your device after the reset. If everything is ready, follow these steps to reset your phone:
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the Galaxy S10+ logo shows, release all three keys.
- Your Galaxy S10 Plus will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
- Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
- When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
