Troubleshooting Galaxy S10 Plus that keeps lagging

There are times when this problem happens due to some apps that may have gone rogue. That’s what you need to rule out and then move to other possibilities if the problem continues to persists. With that being said, here’s what you need to do:

First solution: Force restart your Galaxy S10 Plus that keeps lagging

Before we begin with our troubleshooting, take a little time doing the forced reboot procedure especially if it’s the first time you notice your phone to lag or become sluggish. This procedure will refresh the phone’s memory and reload all its apps. If it’s just a very minor firmware issue, this procedure will fix it. To do it, press and hold the volume down button and the power key simultaneously for 10 seconds or more.

Your phone will reboot like it usually does but after that, try to see if the lags and sluggishness disappeared. If it still has poor performance or still keeps lagging, then move on to the next procedure.

Second solution: Run your phone that keeps lagging in Safe Mode

As I said earlier, it’s possible that this problem is caused by some rogue apps so this is the next thing we need to rule out. By running your phone in safe mode, you’re temporarily disabling all third-party applications in your phone. If some of them cause the phone to become sluggish, then it should work perfectly fine while in this mode. Here’s how to reboot your phone in safe mode:

1. Turn the device off.
2. Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen appearing on the screen.
3. When SAMSUNG appears on the screen, release the Power key.
4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
6. When Safe mode appears in the bottom left corner of the screen, release the Volume down key.

Continue using your phone while in this mode. Pre-installed applications will continue to work without issues in this environment. If your phone still keeps lagging in this mode, then the problem could already be with the firmware. Skip to the fourth solution but if your phone works normally or even smoother, then it confirms that the cause of the problem is one or some of the third-party applications. Move on to the next solution.

Third solution: Uninstall rogue apps

Assuming that the problem is fixed while in safe mode, reboot your phone in normal mode and then determine which of the downloaded apps seem suspicious. Start with apps you recently downloaded and installed. I understand you may have some data you don’t want to lose from those apps so if possible, create a backup of those data and then uninstall suspicious apps one by one. Here’s how it’s done:

1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
2. Tap Settings > Apps.
3. Tap the desired application.
4. Tap UNINSTALL > OK.

You may have to uninstall more than one app to fix your phone that keeps lagging or became sluggish. Uninstalling an app is the easy part, determining which app is problematic is the challenge.

Fourth solution: Reset all settings in your phone

It’s possible that the cause of the problem are some incorrect settings or configuration that may have some conflicts with the system. To rule this possibility out, you should reset all its settings. This will bring the settings back to default but none of your files or data will be deleted. It’s one of those proven effective solution for this kind of problem and here’s how it’s done:

1. From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
2. Tap Settings > General Management > Reset > Reset settings.
3. Tap RESET SETTINGS.
4. If you have set up a PIN, enter it.
5. Tap RESET SETTINGS.
6. The device will restart to perform the reset of settings.

Continue to observe your phone to know if it still keeps lagging and if it still sluggish, then try the next procedure.

Fifth solution: Delete the system cache

The system cache plays a big role in making your phone run smoothly. Caches are created every time you use an app, service or feature. However, these files may get corrupted over time and when that happens, your phone may suffer from performance issues like the phone you’re currently have. To address this, delete the system cache so that it will be replaced with a new one.

1. Turn off the device.
2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
3. When the Android logo displays, release all three keys.
4. An ‘Installing system update’ message will show for 30 – 60 seconds before the Android system recovery menu options appear.
5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
6. Press Power key to select.
7. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Sixth solution: Backup files and reset your phone

After doing all the procedures above and your Galaxy S10 Plus still keeps lagging or still sluggish, then it’s time to reset your phone. A reset is the ultimate solution for this kind of problem but the thing is you have to create a backup of your important files and data as they will be deleted during the process.

Also, we recommend that you remove your Google account from your phone so that you won’t be locked out after the reset. Once everything is set and ready, follow these steps to do the master reset:

1. Back up data on the internal memory. If you have signed into a Samsung account on the device, you have activated Anti-theft and will need your Samsung credentials to finish the master reset.
2. Turn off the device.
3. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
4. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
6. Press Power button to select.
7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
10. Press the Power key to restart the device.
