Troubleshooting Galaxy A50 that turned off and won’t turn on

First of all, I would assume that you were able to use your phone out of the box and that this problem occurred without apparent reason because if the device wasn’t powering up out of the box, there’s no point in troubleshooting it now. You should bring it back to the store and have it replaced. Also, if you dropped your phone on a hard surface and then this problem started, then it’s obvious that the cause of the problem is physical damage.

Now, if you can attest that the problem started on its own, then here’s what you need to do about it:

First solution: Force restart your phone

The first thing you should do if your Galaxy A50 turned off by itself and won’t turn on is the forced restart. It’s a simulated battery removal that refreshes your phone’s memory as well as reloads all its apps and services. Most of the time, a phone won’t turn on or got stuck on a black screen is experiencing what we call a system crash. It’s a pretty minor issue but leaves any device unresponsive. Most of the time, its symptoms may seem like your phone has some serious hardware problems but in reality, it’s just a minor software issue. To fix your phone, here’s what you should do:

1. Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet.
2. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well.
3. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy A50 logo shows on the screen.

If you were able to make your phone power up, then the problem is solved. However, if the device continues to be unresponsive or still won’t turn on, then try doing the same procedure a few more times and if it still doesn’t fix the problem, then try the next procedure.

Second solution: Charge phone and do the forced restart

After doing the first procedure a few times and your Galaxy A50 still won’t turn on, it’s possible that the battery was completely depleted. Most of the time, having a drained battery isn’t really a problem as any phone would immediately respond when connected to their chargers that are plugged into a working wall outlet. However, there are times when a simple battery drain would result in a system crash just before the phone turns off due to insufficient power. To rule out this possibility, here’s what you should do:

1. Plug the charger to a working wall outlet.
2. Using the original cable, connect the phone to its charger.
3. Regardless of whether the phone shows the charging symbol or not, leave it connected to the charger for at least 10 minutes.
4. After which and while the phone is still connected to the charger, press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet.
5. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well.
6. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy A50 logo shows on the screen.

Here’s the thing, if your Galaxy A50 still won’t turn on after this, then it’s time to bring it back to the store or shop so that a technician can check it up for you. It is possible that it’s a hardware problem. However, if you were able to make your phone respond but the problem occurs from time to time, then you better reset your phone. That’s the best solution for random occurrence of this issue.

Before the reset, make sure to create a backup of your important files and data especially ones that are stored in your phone’s internal storage as they will be deleted. After the backup, remove your Google and Samsung accounts so that you won’t be locked out. After which, follow these steps to reset your phone:

1. Turn off the device.
2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
3. When the Galaxy A50 logo shows, release all three keys.
4. Your Galaxy A50 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
6. Press Power button to select.
7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
10. Press the Power key to restart the device.
