Netflix keeps crashing on Galaxy S10 Plus

In troubleshooting third-party applications, it’s best to be thorough to prevent loss of data. In the case of Netflix, every transaction you have or any movie you rented or paid for are tied to your account. If you reach the point wherein you really need to reset the app, then you can rest assured nothing will be lost. With all that being said, here are the things you need to do to fix Netflix that keeps crashing…

First solution: Forced restart your phone

If it’s the first time that you encountered this problem, then it’s always possible that it’s due to glitch or a minor firmware issue. Such problems occur from time to time and while they may result to seemingly serious symptoms, they’re actually pretty easy to fix. In fact, you can fix them by doing the forced restart procedure. Here’s how you do it:

  1. Press and hold the volume down button and don’t release it yet.
  2. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the power key as well.
  3. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy S10 Plus logo shows.

After this, open the app and see if Netflix keeps crashing still because if it does, then you have to do the next procedure.

Second solution: Clear the cache of Netflix

Deleting the cache actually means replacing it with a new one as the system recreates deleted cache once you open the app for the first after the cache is cleared. The importance of this procedure is that there are times when caches get corrupted and when it happens, app crashes may occur. We just have to rule this possibility out by doing this procedure. Here’s how…

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  2. Tap the Settings icon located at the upper-right corner of the screen.
  3. Scroll to and then tap Apps.
  4. Find and tap Netflix.
  5. Tap Storage.
  6. Touch Clear cache.

Once the cache is deleted, close settings and then open the app to see if Netflix keeps crashing even after this. If it still does, then there’s no other option but to reset it.

Third solution: Delete its data files

Doing this will reset Netflix back to its default settings as the files that contain your settings and preferences will be deleted. But the thing is, if it is just an issue with the app, this procedure will surely fix it. That’s why if the Netflix keeps crashing continuously even after the first two procedures, then you have to do this:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  2. Tap the Settings icon located at the upper-right corner of the screen.
  3. Scroll to and then tap Apps.
  4. Find and tap Netflix.
  5. Tap Storage.
  6. Touch Clear data.
  7. Confirm it by tapping OK.

At this point, the app has already been reset. Open it and see if the Netflix keeps crashing issue continues. If it does, then you have to remove the app completely from your phone.

Fourth solution: Uninstall Netflix and reinstall it

Doing this will remove the app and its files from your phone as well as it’s associations with other services and apps. After which, reinstall it to make sure you’re running the most recent version of the app. Many users who encountered similar issues said that this procedure worked for them so it could work for you as well. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  2. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner of the screen.
  3. Scroll to and tap Apps.
  4. Find and tap Netflix.
  5. Tap Uninstall and confirm your action.
  6. Reboot your phone after uninstallation.
  7. Once the phone becomes active, open Play Store.
  8. Search for ‘netflix’ and tap the first option to show.
  9. Tap Install to download and install Spotify on your phone.

If Netflix keeps crashing even after doing this procedure, then it’s time to troubleshoot the firmware itself because it’s possible that the app crash is just a result of a serious firmware issue.

Fifth solution: Wipe cache partition

We’ve already tried to delete or replace the cache of the Netflix app to no avail. This time, we will have to delete or replace the entire system cache which consists of hundreds of files used by the firmware to make your phone run smoothly and perfectly. Just like the caches of individual apps, the system cache can also get corrupted and may result to a firmware issue including app crashes. Follow these steps to wipe the cache partition to rule out this possibility:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Galaxy S10 Plus logo shows on the screen, release all keys.
  4. Your phone will continue the boot process until it reaches the recovery mode.
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
  6. Press Power key to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
  8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Once the phone has rebooted successfully, try to see if Netflix keeps crashing still after this because if it still does, then it’s time to use the ultimate solution to app issues.

Sixth solution: Backup your files and reset your phone

We know that a master reset will fix any app-related issues but we often don’t suggest it without exhausting all possible solutions first. But at this point, you don’t have much of a choice but to reset your phone so, make sure to create a backup of your important files and data. Then, remove both your Google and Samsung accounts so that you won’t be locked out of your device after the reset. After you did these things, follow these steps to reset your phone:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Galaxy S10 Plus logo shows on the screen, release all keys.
  4. Your phone will continue the boot process until it reaches the recovery mode.
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.

You will be prompted to set up your phone after this so just follow on-screen instructions to continue using your phone.
