However there have been reports from users seeing a red dot on Discord icon. Although the red dot icon is not actually a problem or a cause of concern, some users find it irritating and wants to remove it from appearing. The red dot on Discord icon usually appears on the application and on taskbar as well. If you see a red dot on Discord icon it simply means that a notification or a new message is unread. For some it is a useful features, but for others it can be annoying. If you want to remove red dot on Discord icon, follow the ways below:
Remove Red dot on Discord icon permanently

If you choose to remove the red dot permanently you will not be able to know of unread messages or notifications. Therefore you may need to manually check from time to time so as not to miss important notifications and messages.To do this:
Launch Discord application.
It is usually located on your desktop or taskbar.Click Settings.
It’s an icon that looks like a gear located at the lower left near account name.At left pane under App Settings, click Notifications.
This brings you to the notifications settings. At Right pane, toggle OFF the option “Enable Unread Message Badge”
Make sure the switch turns green.Exit Discord Settings

Remove Red Dot on Discord icon temporarily
However, if you do not want to totally remove the red dot from all servers there is an option wherein you can mute a specific channel for a certain period of time. It means that you will not be getting notifications or alerts of unread messages from a particular server if you choose to turn mute ON.
To do this:
- Launch Discord application. It is usually located on your desktop or taskbar.
- Click on the server name.
- Right click on the server name and then click Mute channel.
- Choose the time according to your own preference how long you want server to be mute. If you mute the server or channel, you will not be able to receive notifications and alerts of unread messages from that channel.
Remove Red dot by marking messages as read
Marking messages as read is another way to remove red dot on Discord icon, although red dot will still appear if you receive another notifications.
To do this:
- Launch Discord application. It is usually located on your desktop or taskbar
- Right click on Server channel with the notification.
- Click Mark as Read from the drop down menu.
Change Notifications settings
There is also another option to remove red dot by changing Notification settings for a specific channel or server.
To do this:
- Launch Discord application. It is usually located on your desktop or taskbar
- Right click on Server channel that you do not want to receive notifications from.
- Click Notifications Settings from the drop down menu.
- At Notification settings section, toggle ON Mute “Server name” to turn it ON.
- Choose from the drop down list of Mute Duration according to one’s preferences.
- Click Done to apply changes made.
