Quick fix for WiFi and other network issues with Galaxy A40

Any WiFi related issues can be fixed by a method that only a few users actually know. Problems like when internet connectivity keeps dropping, phone keeps disconnecting from the network, mobile data gives poor or slow connection are among the most commonly reported issues. But then again here’s a fix and that’s to reset your phone’s network settings.

This will bring the phone’s network settings back to the defaults and based on our experience, this is a very effective method to fix almost all network-related problems provided they are caused by minor issues. In doing this, the following changes may occur:

  • Stored Wi-Fi networks will be deleted.
  • Paired Bluetooth devices will be deleted.
  • Background data sync settings will be turned on.
  • Data restrictive settings in applications that were manually turned on/off by the customer will be reset to the default setting.
  • Network selection mode will be set to automatic.

And connections will be brought back to default to reflect the following:

  • Airplane mode: OFF
  • Bluetooth: OFF
  • Data roaming: OFF
  • Mobile hotspot: OFF
  • VPN: OFF
  • Mobile data: ON
  • Wi-Fi: OFF

Now, in order to reset the network settings of your Galaxy A40, you have to follow these steps:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  2. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
  3. Scroll to and tap General management.
  4. Touch Reset.
  5. Tap Reset network settings.
  6. Tap Reset settings.
  7. If prompted, enter your PIN, Password or Pattern.
  8. Finally, tap Reset.

After this, I suggest you reboot your phone and since Wi-Fi will be turned off, you have to enable it and let the phone scan for available networks in the area. If the hotspot you used to connect to is available, then you can find it in the list and if you know the password, it would be a lot easier to connect to it.

Troubleshooting Galaxy A40 with WiFi, Bluetooth, network issues

Assuming that the method above didn’t fix the issue with your phone, then you should try and troubleshoot your phone to know what the real problem is. Again, I would like to emphasize that any network-related issue can be fixed provided the phone’s firmware hasn’t been modified in any way. If you installed a custom ROM, you may refer to the developer’s page for some information on the radios as that might be the reason why you’re having such issues.

However, if the firmware’s integrity is intact, then continue your troubleshooting and here’s what you should do about it…

Find out if the problem occurs in Safe mode

There are times when third-party apps or any app for that matter may affect your phone’s performance and shut down some of the core functions like WiFi and other services. By running your Galaxy A40 in safe mode, you’re temporarily disabling all third-party apps so you’re basically isolating the problem. It’s important that you do this procedure first because it’s safe for both the phone and your data and will give you an idea as to what’s causing it. Follow these steps to start your phone in safe mode:

  1. Press and hold the Power key until options show.
  2. Tap and hold the Power off option until it changes into Safe Mode.
  3. Tap the Safe mode icon to restart your device.
  4. Once the reboot is successful, you should see ‘Safe mode’ at the lower-left corner of the screen.

Now, try to see if the problem still occurs because if it does not, it’s clear that there’s a third-party app or two that’s causing it. Find that app and uninstall it to fix the problem:

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Applications.
  4. Tap the desired application in the default list or tap Menu icon > Show system apps to display preinstalled apps.
  5. Tap Uninstall.
  6. Tap Uninstall again to confirm.

However, if the problem still happens in this mode, then move on to the next step.

Reset all settings in your Galaxy A40

Most of the time, incorrect settings may result to unpredictable performance of your phone and that may result to issues like this. We need to rule out this possibility and to do that, you just have to reset all settings in your phone. This will bring the phone to its default or factory settings however, none of your files and data will be deleted. So again, it’s safe but very effective…

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  2. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
  3. Scroll to and tap General management.
  4. Touch Reset.
  5. Tap Reset settings.
  6. Tap the Reset settings button.
  7. If prompted, enter your PIN, Password or Pattern.
  8. Finally, tap Reset.

After doing this, try to see if the problems still occurs, you have a couple of procedures to try.

Wipe cache partition

This procedure will delete all the system caches from your phone and replace them with new ones. It happens automatically and all you have to do is reboot your phone in Recovery mode and wipe the cache partition.

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Galaxy A40 logo shows, release all three keys.
  4. Your Galaxy A40 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
  6. Press Power key to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
  8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

If the problem still persists after this, then your last resort is the reset.

Backup file and reset your phone

This will delete everything your device and bring it back to its factory default settings but before you actually do this, if you have issues with your WiFi, try to reboot your router or modem and use other devices to verify it’s still working properly. If it’s with Bluetooth, try to pair it with other phones or laptops to see if it works.

Now, going back to the reset, make sure you make a backup of your important files and data as they will be deleted. Then disable the Factory Reset Protection by removing your Google account from  your phone so that you won’t be locked out of your device after the reset. Once everything is in order, follow these steps to reset your A40:

  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.
