How To Fix Windows 10 Update Error 0x80070422
Most of the time, Microsoft regularly releases Windows update for Windows operating system for improvement in the performance of your computer and for security enhancements as well. When an update is available and ready to download, the process for updating is pretty simple and easy. But there are instances when certain issues can occur during the update process such as getting update error 0x80070422. The error code usually appears when Windows updates was not installed after downloading. In this latest installment of our troubleshooting series we will tackle the Windows 10 Update Error 0x80070422 issue.
What to do if Windows 10 Update Error 0x80070422 occurs
There are several factors that can cause error message to appear when updating Windows such as issues with the antivirus wherein it disables the windows services that are used for downloading the update to a corrupt system files. If you are getting Windows update error 0x80070422 with Windows 10 update, try the following solutions below to fix it.
Before performing the recommended troubleshooting steps below I suggest that you try restarting your computer first. This action refreshes the operating system and remove any corrupt temporary data that could be causing the problem.
Solution 1: Make sure Windows Update Service is running
Windows update service is a service on Microsoft that is responsible for downloading and installing software updates on your computer. If the service is not running, it may be the culprit for Windows update errors to occur with Windows update. To fix this, check the Windows Update service from the services window and make sure it is running.
To do this:
Install Windows updates again and then check if Windows 10 update error code 0x80070422 still occurs.
Solution 2: Restart Other Windows Services
Other than the Windows update service which is mainly responsible for the update process, there are also other Windows update services that you also need to look into whenever you are having update related issues. These services includes: BitLocker Drive Encryption Service, DCOM Server Process Launcher, Network list service, Network connection and Windows Defender Firewall. Make sure all these services are also running by restarting the services one by one and restart network list service.
To do this:
- Press Windows key + R on your keyboard to open RUN dialog box.
- At RUN dialog box, type services.msc and press Enter or click OK to open Windows Services.
- On Services window, scroll down and locate BitLocker Drive Encryption Service. Make sure Service is running. If the service is not running, right click on it and then click Start from the drop down menu.
- Scroll down and locate DCOM Server Process Launcher service. Make sure Service Status is running. If the service is not running, right click on it and then click Start from the drop down menu.
- Scroll down and locate Network list service. Make sure Status is running. If the service is not running, right click on it and then click Start from the drop down menu.
- Scroll down and locate Network connection service. Make sure Service Status is running. If the service is not running, right click on it and then click Start from the drop down.
- Scroll down and locate Windows Firewall. Make sure Service Status is running. If the service is not running, right click on it and then click Start from the drop down.
- Restart computer.
Once computer completely reboots, check if Windows update error 0x80070422 still occurs.
Solution 3: Disable Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6)
There have been reports from other users claimed that disabling IPv6 helped fix error 0x80070422 . Most of the time, if you are having issues with your internet connection, most likely the update process will not be possible causing error 0x80070422 to occur. To fix this, try to disable IPv6 and then check if the error will be fixed.
To do this:
- Type Control Panel at the search box located at the lower left.
- Click on Control Panel result.
- At Control Panel window, make sure View by is set to large icons.
- Click on Network and Sharing Center.
- At left pane, click Change adapter settings.
- Right click on your Internet connection and click Properties from the drop down menu.
- Scroll down and locate Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6).
- Uncheck Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) to disable it.
- Click Ok to apply changes made.
- Restart computer.
Once computer completely reboots, check if Windows update error 0x80070422 still occurs.
Solution 4: Run DISM and SFC scan
If there are corrupt or missing system files on your computer, it is possible to have caused windows update error to occur. To fix this, try to run DISM or Deployment Image Servicing and Management and SFC or System File Checker scan. The purpose of this scans is to search for corrupt or missing files present.
To run the DISM:
- Type Command Prompt at the search bar on your Windows located at the lower left.
- Right click on the Command Prompt result and click Run as Administrator from the drop down menu. This is required for administrative access. If a prompt User account control (UAC) appears, click OK.
- Type the following commands and then press Enter after each command
- Type DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth and press Enter. Wait for the command to complete as it can take some time.
- Type DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth and press Enter. Wait for the command to complete as it can take some time.
After DISM scan is complete, update to Windows 10 again and then check if Windows 10 update error 0x80070422 still occurs.
If after running DISM tool to update files and Update to Windows 10 v update error code 0x80070422 still occurs. You may need to RUN SFC tool to fix this problem.
To run the SFC scan:
- Type Command Prompt at the search bar on your Windows located at the lower left.
- Right click on the Command Prompt result and click Run as Administrator from the drop down menu. This is required for administrative access. If a prompt User account control (UAC) appears, click OK.
- Type the command sfc /scannow and press Enter . Windows will now scan for corrupt or missing update files. Wait for it to complete and make sure not to abort the process.
After running SFC and update files complete, update Windows 10 again and then check if Windows 10 update error 0x80070422 still occurs.
Solution 5: Run Windows Update Troubleshooter
A built in troubleshooter tool on Windows that scans the computer for problems and fixes the problem if there are any. In this case, try to run Windows Update troubleshooter since the problems is relating to issues with Windows update.
To do this:
- Click on the Start menu button or Windows logo key located at the lower left.
- Click Settings, an icon that looks like a gear to open Windows Settings section
- At windows setting section, click on Update and Security tab
- Click Troubleshoot at the left pane
- At right pane, click Additional Troubleshooters
- Locate and Click on Windows Update under the Get up and Running section
- Click Run the Troubleshooter tab. A new window opens and Windows will now detect problems
- After Troubleshooter process is complete and it could not identify any problem, click on Close and Exit Settings Section. If a problem is detected, it will display recommended solutions to fix it.
After running microsoft’s update troubleshooter process , update Windows again and then check if Windows update error code 0x80070422 still occurs.
