How To Fix The Samsung Galaxy J6 That’s Stuck In A Bootloop
Problem: Hey I bought an unlocked J6. The problem I’m having is the boot loop issue I followed the troubleshooting guide you guys made, but none of the steps worked out for me. Here is a specific list of issues I have currently. S8 cannot boot into recovery mode, it only is able to boot into download mode. I tried flashing stock firmware using Odin, but after trying several attempts the boot loop problem still persists… So If you have any other solution that might fix this, would be appreciated. I first encountered this problem when I was at work in the morning at 7 noticed that my phone randomly restarted in my pocket. I’m assuming it was some system update since I think I set it where it auto updates when at a convenient time.
Solution: In most cases, a phone that is stuck in a bootloop is caused by some software issue. This is what we will be troubleshooting right now. Follow the recommended troubleshooting steps listed below to fix this problem.
Remove the micro SD card
Sometimes a bad micro SD card can cause a phone to be stuck in a bootloop. This happens when the phone is trying to access the data stored in the card but then this data is stored in a corrupted sector. To check if this is what’s causing the problem just remove the micro SD card if your phone has one installed.
Charge the phone until the battery is full
There are cases when the phone will be stuck in a bootloop due to the battery having a low charge left. To eliminate this possibility make sure to fully charge the phone using its wall charger.
Perform a soft reset
A soft reset is usually the first thing that needs to be performed when the phone is frozen or is unresponsive. When this is performed the operating system of the phone is rebooted and all running services are reloaded.
- Press and hold the power button and the volume down button on the side of the Samsung Galaxy J6 until the screen turns off.
- The phone will automatically reboot.
Check if the phone starts in Safe Mode
Sometimes an app you downloaded can cause issues with the phone. To check if this is what’s causing the problem you should start the phone in Safe Mode as only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode.
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Power key for one or two seconds to turn on the device.
- When the Samsung logo displays, press and hold the Volume down key until the lock screen displays.
In case the phone starts in this mode then the problem is most likely caused by a downloaded app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
Wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode
There are cases when the temporary system data of the phone gets too large and becomes corrupted. When this happens certain issues can occur such as the bootloop problem you are experiencing. To eliminate this possibility you will need to wipe the cache partition of the phone.
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the device logo screen displays, release only the Power key
- When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
- Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe cache partition.’
- Press the Power key to select.
- Press the Volume down key to highlight ‘yes’ and press the Power key to select.
- When the wipe cache partition is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
Perform a factory reset using the hardware keys
One last troubleshooting step to consider is a factory reset. This will revert the phone back to its original factory condition. Take note that your phone data will be erased in the process.
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the device logo screen displays, release only the Power key
- When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
- Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
- Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
- When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
If the above steps fails to fix the problem then this might already be caused by a faulty hardware component. The best thing to do right now is to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
