How To Fix The Huawei Nova 3 Can’t Send MMS Issue

It’s best to make sure that your phone is running on the latest software version prior to performing the troubleshooting steps listed below. If an update is available then I suggest that you download and install it first. This will minimize the possibility of the problem being caused by an old software version.

There are generally two things that carriers will need in order for your phone to send and receive an MMS. First, it should have an active mobile data subscription. Second, your phone should have the correct APN settings.

Make sure your phone is able to go online using your mobile data subscription and that it is getting a good data signal, preferably LTE.

Each carrier has its own unique APN setting so it’s best to compare your carrier setting with the one set in your phone and make the necessary changes on your device if needed.

To access the APN settings of your phone:

  • Go to the Settings menu
  • Tap the Wireless & Networks section
  • Press Mobile network
  • Press Access point name

In case your phone satisfies both conditions but it is still unable to send out and MMS then proceed with the additional troubleshooting steps listed below.

Perform a soft reset

Try to refresh the phone software by restarting it. While this is usually done when a phone is unresponsive it should also work  in this particular case as it removes any corrupted temporary data.

  • Press and hold the Power and Volume down key for up to 45 seconds.
  • Wait as the device restarts.

Once the phone restarts check if the Huawei Nova 3 can’t send MMS issue still occurs.

Clear the cache and data of the text messaging app

Your phone text messaging app will usually store the most commonly used data allowing it to provide a faster user experience. This data however can become corrupted which can lead to this particular issue. If this is the case then clearing the cache and data of this app will help.

  • Tap on Settings
  • Tap Apps
  • Tap on Apps again
  • Tap the Messaging app
  • Tap on storage
  • Tap on clear cache
  • Tap on the Home key to return to the home screen

Check if the Huawei Nova 3 can’t send MMS issue still occurs.

Check if the issue occurs in Safe Mode

There are instances when an app you downloaded and installed in the phone could be causing this problem. To check if this is the case you will need to start the phone in Safe Mode since only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode.

  • Power off the phone by holding down the power button for a few seconds.
  • Press and hold the power button and release it when you see the Huawei logo on screen.
  • After releasing the Power key, immediately press and hold the Volume down key.
  • Keep holding the Volume key till the phone completely boots up.
  • Once the phone boots up,  “Safe mode” should be appeared on the bottom of the screen

In case the issue does not occur in this mode then it is probably caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Wipe the cache partition of the phone

The phone system cached data is used to speed up the access to your phone apps. Sometimes this data can get corrupted which results in issues occuring on the device. To check if a corrupted cached data is causing the problem you will need to wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up button.
  • While holding the Volume Up button, connect USB charger to the phone.
  • Within a few seconds, your phone will boot into the recovery mode.
  • Now, remove the USB charger.
  • Use volume buttons to highlight ‘wipe cache partition’ and use power key to select it
  • Reboot the system once the process is completed

Check if the issue still occurs.

Perform a factory reset

One last troubleshooting step you should consider is a factory reset. This will revert your phone back to its original factory condition. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset as it will be deleted in the process.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up button.
  • While holding the Volume Up button, connect USB charger to the phone.
  • Within a few seconds, your phone will boot into the recovery mode.
  • Now, remove the USB charger.
  • Use volume buttons to highlight  select wipe cache/factory reset and use power key to select it
  • Reboot the system once the process is completed

Once the reset is complete make sure that the phone has the correct APN settings first then try to send an MMS.
