The Signal cannot send messages problem usually occurs when you are trying to send out a message to a person or group of people. There are several factors that can cause this issue such as a poor internet service, a VPN, or a large attachment that hasn’t been sent out yet.
Signal is a popular encrypted messaging service that’s available for the Android, iOS, Windows, Linux, and MacOS platforms. It works the same way as other regular messaging apps with users able to send one on one message, create group chats, send stickers or photos, and make voice or video calls. What makes this different is that it uses end to end encryption, does not collect your data, and does not display ads.
Cannot send out messages using Signal app
One problem that you might encounter while trying to use this app on your mobile device is when it can’t send out a message. Here’s what you need to do to fix this.
Things to do first:
- Restart the phone.
- Make sure your phone is running on the latest software version.
- Make sure Signal is updated to the latest version from the Google Play Store.
Method 1: Check the phone internet connection
The first thing you will want to do is to make sure the phone has a good internet connection. The best way to do this is to run a speed test.
Time needed: 5 minutes.
Check internet speed
- Open the phone browser.
You can do this by swiping up from the home screen and tapping your preferred browser.
- Go to Google.com then search for “speedtest”
This will open the speed test results and show you a tool that you can use.
- Tap on the RUN SPEED TEST button.
This is usually the first choice that appears on the search results.
If the results are not good then try connecting your phone to a different Wi-Fi network. You can also try using your mobile data subscription if no other Wi-Fi network is available.
Method 2: Turn off the VPN service you are using on your phone to fix Signal not sending messages
If you have a VPN service running on your phone then this might be interfering with Signal. You should try turning this off by opening the VPN app then tap on the off switch. Once it is off try checking if the issue still occurs.
Method 3: Delete any pending large attachments that you are trying to send
You should try scrolling up to the conversation on Signal app and see if any large attachments are still trying to send out then delete the message. Once this is done try checking if the problem still occurs.
After performing the steps listed above you will successfully fix the Signal cannot send messages on Android device issue.
