How to Fix Samsung TV Missing or Unavailable Apps
Samsung TVs can lose apps from the Smart Hub for several reasons: a corrupted cache, a failed firmware update, Samsung’s own server-side issues (a global outage in July 2025 locked millions of users out of Netflix, YouTube, and other apps), or simply because the TV’s Tizen OS version no longer supports the app. Below are the fixes that actually work, ordered from quickest to most involved.
Cold Boot the TV (Fixes It for Most People)
A cold boot clears the TV’s RAM and forces the Smart Hub to reload its app catalog from Samsung’s servers. This is different from simply pressing the power button, which only puts the TV in standby.
How to cold boot:
- With the remote: Hold down the Power button on the Samsung remote for about 5–8 seconds. The TV will shut off and restart on its own. When the Samsung logo appears, release the button.
- With the power cable: Turn the TV off, unplug it from the wall, wait a full 60 seconds (this drains residual power from the capacitors), then plug it back in and turn it on.
After the cold boot, press the Home button and check the app bar along the bottom. If your missing apps haven’t reappeared, navigate to Apps (the grid icon) and look in “All Apps” or search for the specific app by name.
If the Apps icon itself is gone from the home screen — a common bug after firmware updates in 2024 and 2025 — press the Home button, then press Up on the directional pad. You should see navigation tabs including “For You,” “Live,” and “Apps.” Scroll right to “Apps” and press OK.
Check Samsung’s Server Status
Before spending time troubleshooting your own TV, verify that Samsung’s servers aren’t down. Samsung’s Smart Hub relies entirely on cloud infrastructure to serve app listings, and when their servers go down, no amount of resetting will help.
How to check:
- Visit Downdetector’s Samsung page on your phone or computer.
- Check the Samsung Community forums for recent outage reports.
- Try loading a web browser on the TV (if available) — if it loads pages but apps won’t appear, the issue is likely Samsung’s app servers specifically.
During the July 31, 2025 global outage, Samsung’s backend infrastructure failed worldwide. Apps like YouTube, Apple TV, Hulu, and Prime Video wouldn’t open on any Samsung TV. Netflix was the only app that continued working because it runs on its own CDN rather than Samsung’s servers. The outage lasted roughly 12–24 hours before Samsung restored service.
Verify Your Internet Connection
The Smart Hub needs a stable internet connection to display and download apps. A weak or intermittent Wi-Fi signal is one of the most common reasons apps appear missing.
- Press Home → Settings → General → Network → Network Status.
- Run the built-in network test. Look at both the connection to the router and the connection to the internet — both should show green checkmarks.
- If the connection is unstable or shows an error, try these steps: – Move the router closer to the TV, or use a wired Ethernet connection (far more reliable for Smart TVs). – Power cycle the router: unplug it for 30 seconds, plug it back in, and wait 2 minutes before testing the TV again. – On the TV, go to Settings → General → Network → Network Settings and re-enter your Wi-Fi password to force a fresh connection.
Pro tip: If your TV is connected to a 5 GHz Wi-Fi network and keeps dropping, switch to 2.4 GHz. The 5 GHz band has faster speeds but shorter range and worse wall penetration. Many Samsung TVs from 2020–2023 have notoriously weak 5 GHz reception.
Update the TV’s Firmware
Outdated firmware can cause the Smart Hub to glitch, hide apps, or fail to load the app store entirely. Samsung periodically pushes firmware updates that fix these issues.
For 2020–2024 models:
- Press Home → Settings → Support → Software Update.
- Select Update Now. The TV will check Samsung’s servers for the latest firmware.
- If an update is available, select Yes to download and install. The TV will restart automatically — don’t unplug it during this process.
For 2025 models (One UI):
- Press Home → Settings → All Settings → Support → Software Update → Update Now.
If your TV can’t connect to Samsung’s servers to download the update, you can update via USB:
- Go to samsung.com/support on a computer.
- Search for your exact TV model number (found on the sticker on the back of the TV or under Settings → Support → About This TV).
- Download the latest firmware file and transfer it to a USB drive formatted as FAT32.
- Insert the USB drive into the TV and go to Settings → Support → Software Update → Update Now. The TV will detect the USB file and install it.
Reset the Smart Hub
Resetting the Smart Hub reinstalls all default apps and clears any corrupted data in the app platform. Your personal TV settings (picture, sound, network) stay intact — only apps and Smart Hub preferences are wiped.
For 2020–2023 models:
- Go to Settings → Support → Device Care → Self Diagnosis → Reset Smart Hub.
- Enter your PIN when prompted. The default PIN is 0000 unless you’ve changed it.
- The Smart Hub will reset and the TV will return to its initial app setup screen. Follow the on-screen prompts to set it up again.
For 2024 models:
- Go to Settings → All Settings → Support → Device Care → Self Diagnosis → Reset Smart Hub.
- Enter your PIN (default: 0000).
After the reset, the TV will need a few minutes to re-download the default app catalog. Make sure the TV stays connected to the internet during this process.
Reinstall Missing Apps Manually
If specific apps are missing but the Smart Hub is otherwise working fine, you can reinstall them directly from Samsung’s app store.
- Press Home on the remote, then navigate to Apps (the grid icon on the app bar).
- Select the Search icon (magnifying glass) in the top right.
- Type the name of the missing app (e.g., “Netflix,” “YouTube,” “Disney+”).
- Select the app from the results and press Install.
If the app doesn’t appear in search results at all, it may have been removed from your TV’s app store due to one of these reasons:
| Reason | What It Means | What to Do |
|---|---|---|
| Region restriction | The app isn’t available in your country’s app store | See the region settings section below |
| Tizen OS version too old | The app developer dropped support for your TV’s OS version | No fix — the app is permanently unavailable on your TV model. Consider a streaming stick like Roku or Fire TV Stick |
| App discontinued | The app publisher pulled it from Samsung’s store entirely | Look for alternatives or use the TV’s built-in web browser |
| TV model too old | Samsung has ended Smart Hub support for your TV | External streaming device is the only option |
Check Your Samsung Account and Region Settings
Samsung’s app store catalog varies by region. If your Samsung account is set to a different country than where you’re physically located, or if the TV’s region settings are wrong, you’ll see a different (and often smaller) app library.
- Press Home → Settings → General → System Manager → Samsung Account. Confirm you’re signed in and that the account region matches your actual location.
- Check the TV’s location setting: Settings → General → System Manager → Location. If it shows the wrong country, update it and restart the TV.
Changing region on newer TVs (2022+): Samsung locked down region switching on newer Tizen OS versions. TVs purchased in North America can only switch between North American countries; EU-purchased TVs can only switch within EU countries. You cannot change a US TV to a Korean or Japanese region, for example.
If you need an app that’s only available in another region, your best option as of 2026 is to use an external streaming device (Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV Stick, or Chromecast) where app availability is less restricted.
Factory Reset the TV (Last Resort)
If nothing else works, a full factory reset wipes everything — apps, settings, Wi-Fi passwords, Samsung account — and returns the TV to its out-of-box state. Only do this if you’ve exhausted all other options.
For 2020–2024 models:
- Go to Settings → General → Reset.
- Enter your PIN (default: 0000).
- Select Reset and confirm. The TV will restart and walk you through the initial setup process.
For 2025 models:
- Go to Settings → All Settings → General & Privacy → Factory Data Reset.
- Enter your PIN and confirm.
After the factory reset, sign back into your Samsung account and allow 5–10 minutes for the Smart Hub to fully re-populate its app catalog.
When Your TV Is Too Old for the App
Samsung TVs running Tizen 2.4 or older (roughly 2015–2016 models) have lost support for most major streaming apps. Even some 2017–2019 models are starting to see apps disappear as developers drop support for older Tizen versions.
Samsung announced in 2024 that starting with the 2024 models, TVs will receive 7 years of Tizen OS updates — a significant improvement over the 2–3 years of support older models received. But if you own a TV from before 2023, this policy won’t help you.
Your best options if your TV no longer supports the apps you need:
| Device | Price Range | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max | ~$35–60 | Budget pick, Alexa integration |
| Roku Streaming Stick 4K | ~$30–50 | Simplest interface, broadest app library |
| Apple TV 4K | ~$130–180 | Apple ecosystem, AirPlay, best UI |
| Chromecast with Google TV | ~$30–50 | Google ecosystem, casting from phone |
Any of these plug into your TV’s HDMI port and give you access to every major streaming app regardless of your TV’s age or Tizen version. [INTERNAL LINK: best streaming devices]

My Samsung tv model is UA50F6400ARXZN. I am in United Arab Emirates; I tried to install Yango Play in my tv but couldn’t find it in Samsung App. My question; is there another way that I can use to install yango play in my Samsung tv, like downloading installation file in a USB then installing it in the TV?
