How To Fix Samsung Galaxy S9+ Screen Is Green

Problem: Samsung galaxy S9+ screen started flickering green occasionally for about a week then after that it went completely green and could barely see anything on the device until it just went completely black screen then green again . It would be very much appreciated if I could get something done about it because I don’t have the money to go buy another one really enjoyed using the s9+ for the time I had it. Thanks have a blessed day.

Solution: Although this already appears to be caused by a faulty hardware component there are still a couple of troubleshooting steps that you can do to check if a software glitch is causing the problem. Listed below are the steps that you need to perform to fix the problem.

Perform a soft reset

The first thing you will have to do in this case is a soft reset which is usually done when a phone becomes unresponsive.

  • Press and hold the Power and Volume down key for up to 45 seconds.
  • Wait as the device restarts.

Once the phone restarts check if the display now works.

Check if the issue occurs in Safe Mode

It is possible that one of the apps you downloaded is causing this problem of the screen not displaying anything. To check if this is the case you will need to start the phone in Safe Mode since only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode.

  • Turn the phone off.
  • Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen appearing on the screen.
  • When SAMSUNG appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  • Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  • Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  • When Safe mode appears in the bottom left corner of the screen, release the Volume down key.

In case the screen works in this mode then it’s likely that the problem is caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Wipe the cache partition of the phone

The phone system cached data is used to speed up the access to your phone apps. Sometimes this data can get corrupted which results in issues occuring on the device. To check if a corrupted cached data is causing the problem you will need to wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.

  • Turn off the phone.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  • When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight “wipe cache partition.”
  • Press the Power key to select.
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight “yes” and press the Power key to select.
  • When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

Check if the issue still occurs.

Perform a factory reset

One last troubleshooting step you should consider is a factory reset. This will revert your phone back to its original factory condition. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset as it will be deleted in the process.

  • Turn off the phone.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  • When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  • Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  • When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

In case the screen still remains green even after performing the troubleshooting steps listed above then this is most likely caused by a faulty hardware component, possibly the display or display controller. The best thing to do right now is to have the phone repaired at a service center.

  1. My Galaxy S9 started the black screen with green line at top problem, with occasional full screen green blob with flickering. There is no issue with moisture/liquid spills, screen damage, overheating, or recent hard drops. I actually take good care of the phone.

Tried all the possible solutions; reboot, reboot in safe mode, Always On Display ON, Adaptive brightness OFF, Medium power saver selected, Auto brightness OFF, and some others. Nothing worked.

Then, I started observing WHEN it seemed to be happening, and it was when I turned the phone on, when it goes to the Lock Screen. So, I disabled the Lock Screen…and it’s been ok since then.

I hope this was the problem. If not, I’ll be switching to an iPhone, because Samsung hasn’t done sh*t to help us with this widespread problem, except “I can sell you a new phone”.

    Fu*k that BS.
