How To Fix Samsung Galaxy S9+ Not Registering To T-Mobile Network

Problem: I have a Galaxy S9 Plus that will not register on to T-Mobile’s Network operator. I thought that it was a locked phone, but I went to T-Mobile store last night and had the phone permanently unlocked. They have entered and reentered the APN settings at least five times. I have turn the phone off remove SIM card turn the phone back on wait 5 minutes put the SIM card in nothing. I just don’t know what to do.

Solution: Before performing any troubleshooting steps on the phone its best to make sure that it is running on the latest software version. If an update is available then I suggest that you download and install it first.

Perform a soft reset

The first thing that you will need to do in this particular case is a soft reset. This will usually fix issues caused by minor software glitches as it will refresh the phone software.

  • Press and hold the Power and Volume down key for up to 45 seconds.
  • Wait as the device restarts.

Once the phone restarts try to check if it is now able to get service. Take note that you should be in an area that is known to have a good T-Mobile network coverage.

Try going to a different location

Sometimes you will be in an area that will not have any network coverage which is why you won’t get any signal in your device. To check if this is what’s causing the problem try going to a different area.

Try using a different SIM card

There are instances when the problem can be caused by a faulty SIM card. To eliminate this possibility you should try inserting a different T-Mobile SIM card in your phone.

Check if the issue occurs in Safe Mode

Another factor that can cause this problem is an app you downloaded to the device. To check if this is the case you will need to start the phone in Safe Mode since only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode.

  • Turn the phone off.
  • Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen appearing on the screen.
  • When SAMSUNG appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  • Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  • Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  • When Safe mode appears in the bottom left corner of the screen, release the Volume down key.

In case the phone can register to the network in this mode then it’s likely that the problem is caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Wipe the cache partition of the phone

The phone system cached data is used to speed up the access to your phone apps. Sometimes this data can get corrupted which results in issues occurring on the device. To check if a corrupted cached data is causing the problem you will need to wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.

  • Turn off the phone.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  • When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight “wipe cache partition.”
  • Press the Power key to select.
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight “yes” and press the Power key to select.
  • When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

Perform a factory reset

One last troubleshooting step you should consider is a factory reset. This will revert your phone back to its original factory condition. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset as it will be deleted in the process.

  • Turn off the phone.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  • When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  • Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  • When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

In case the phone persists after performing  the troubleshooting steps listed above then this is most likely caused by a faulty hardware component. The best thing to do right now is to have the phone repaired at a service center.
