Problem: I have a Sprint Samsung Galaxy S9 that is unlocked and I use with a T-Mobile sim card. I was in Mexico and crossed over the border into the USA, and when I noticed that it the phone was still connected to the roaming network (TELCEL), I decided to help it switch back to T-Mobile by turning on airplane on and off. When I turned off airplane mode, the phone told me a message which I disregarded but it had to do with not being able to connect or find fast.t-mobile.com. I did not get an error code, and if I did I didn’t record it. When I reboot the phone it shows something from Sprint checking the status and at first it used to tell me it couldn’t connect or something along those lines. When I try to manually select the network it says that is unavailable, after I try to register to T-Mobile. The message I get is: “No Service, Selected network (T-Mobile) not available). All I see in the signal strength is an x. I’ve followed a lot of the steps you all give on your site to try to fix the issue, the only one I haven’t done and that I think is my last resort, is the factory reset. I tried the sim card on my old phone (ZTE Axon 7), and once I inserted the sim card it connects to the network so I don’t think it’s the card. Help please!

Listed below are the troubleshooting steps that you need to perform to fix this problem. Before proceeding with the troubleshooting you should make sure that your phone is running on the latest software version. If an update is available then I suggest that you download and install it.
Turn Off Data Roaming On The S9
The first thing you will need to do in this case is to turn off data roaming.
- From the Home screen, tap Apps
- Tap Settings
- Select Connections > Mobile Networks
- Toggle the Data roaming switch to off
Once it is off try to check if the phone can now get a signal from your home network.
Perform A Soft Reset On The S9
If the phone is still not getting a signal from the network even when data roaming is already off then the next step is to perform a soft reset. This is done by pressing the Power+Volume down buttons until the device powers off. Allow several seconds for the Maintenance Boot Mode screen to appear. From here select select Normal Boot.
Reset Network Settings Of The S9
You should also consider resetting the network settings of the phone as this will usually fix this kind of problem.
Take note that the following will happen when you perform this procedure.
- Stored Wi-Fi networks will be deleted.
- Paired Bluetooth devices will be deleted.
- Background data sync settings will be turned on.
- Data restrictive settings in applications that were manually turned on/off by the customer will be reset to the default setting.
- Network selection mode will be set to automatic.
To perform a network reset
- From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
- Tap Settings – General Management – Reset – Reset network settings.
- Tap RESET SETTINGS.
- If you have set up a PIN, enter it.
- Tap RESET SETTINGS. Once complete, a confirmation window will appear.
Factory Reset The S9
In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then you should consider doing a factory reset. Take note that this will erase your phone data so make sure to make a backup copy before proceeding with this step.
- Turn off the phone.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
- Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
- When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
