Problem: Hi, I recently updated and installed the new operating system for my Galaxy s9. For some reason when I listen to music through the Samsung music app, it will stop playing after a few seconds. Can you please make a suggestion or two on this could be fixed. I’m thinking it has something to do with the recent update as of yesterday, February 22nd, 2019. Thank you.
Solution: Before performing any troubleshooting steps on this phone it’s best to make sure that it is running on the latest software version. If an update is available then I suggest that you download and install it first.
Are your music files stored in the internal storage of the phone or are they in the microSD card? If they are in the microSD card then try moving some songs to the internal storage then remove the card. Check if the problem still occurs. In case it doesn’t then this might be caused by a faulty card in which case you should consider getting a new microSD card.
In case the issue persists or if you don’t have a microSD card installed in your phone then proceed with the additional troubleshooting steps listed below.
Do a Soft Reset
The first thing that you will need to do in this particular case is a soft reset. This will usually fix issues caused by minor software glitches as it will refresh the phone software. This is also called as a simulated battery pull as it disconnects the phone from the battery.
- Press and hold the Power and Volume down key for up to 45 seconds.
- Wait as the device restarts.

Wipe the cache partition of the phone
The phone system cached data is used to speed up the access to your phone apps. Sometimes this data can get corrupted which results in issues occuring on the device. To check if a corrupted cached data is causing the problem you will need to wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode.
- Turn off the phone.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
- Press the Volume down key to highlight “wipe cache partition.”
- Press the Power key to select.
- Press the Volume down key to highlight “yes” and press the Power key to select.
- When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
Check if the issue still occurs.
Perform a factory reset
One last troubleshooting step you should consider is a factory reset. This will revert your phone back to its original factory condition. Take note that this will erase your phone data so make sure to create a backup copy before proceeding.
- Turn off the phone.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
- Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
