How To Fix Samsung Galaxy S9 Bluetooth Notifications Not Working After Android Pie Update
Problem: After the latest Samsung Galaxy S9 Pie update my notifications no longer work through my car. It appears all of my notifications settings changed and now after the update, my phone no longer notifies me through my car. I tried contacting Verizon support and they were telling me things that I already tried. I do work in computers so I do try to troubleshoot as much as I can before contacting support but they were of no use to me. I have noticed many new settings for Bluetooth and also read an article about something similar and to access the developer settings to change a setting that they suggested but that didn’t help either. Please help!
Solution: Before performing any troubleshooting steps on this phone it’s best to make sure that it is running on the latest software version. If an update is available then I suggest that you download and install it first.
As this issue is most likely caused by a software glitch we will be concentrating out troubleshooting efforts on the software side of the device.
Perform a soft reset
The first thing that you will need to do in this particular case is a soft reset. This will usually fix issues caused by minor software glitches as it will refresh the phone software. This is also called as a simulated battery pull as it disconnects the phone from the battery.
- Press and hold the Power and Volume down key for up to 45 seconds.
- Wait as the device restarts.
Check if the issue still occurs.
Reset the network settings
Resetting the network settings of the device will usually fix this particular problem. What happens in this case is that the stored Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections will be deleted from the phone.
- From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
- Tap Settings > General Management > Reset > Reset network settings.
- Tap RESET SETTINGS.
- If you have set up a PIN, enter it.
- Tap RESET SETTINGS. Once complete, a confirmation window will appear.
Pair your phone with the car
Once the network settings have been reset you should pair your phone to your car then check if the issue still occurs. Make sure to delete the phone Bluetooth connection from your car first.
- From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
- Tap Settings > Connections.
- Tap the Bluetooth switch to turn on.
- Tap Bluetooth. The device scans for and displays the IDs of all available Bluetooth devices in range.
- If your mobile device stops scanning before your Bluetooth device is ready, tap SCAN.
- Tap the Bluetooth device in the AVAILABLE DEVICES list to pair with your phone.
- Follow the instructions to complete the pairing.
- If you’re prompted to enter a passcode, try entering 0000 or 1234, the most common passcodes, or consult the documentation that came with the device.
- If the pairing is successful, your phone connects to the Bluetooth device.
Make sure the Notification setting of the phone is On
- Go to Settings then Sounds and vibration.
- Tap Notification sounds.
- Select the preferred notification.
Check if the issue still occurs.
Wipe the cache partition of the phone
There are cases when the cached data that the phone stores in its partition can become corrupted. Once this happens certain issues can occur on the device. To eliminate the possibility of this issue causing the problem you should wipe the cache partition of the phone.
- Turn off the phone.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the Android logo displays, release all three keys.
- An ‘Installing system update’ message will show for 30 – 60 seconds before the Android system recovery menu options appear.
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
- Press Power key to select.
- Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
- When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
Check if the issue still occurs.
Perform a factory reset
One last troubleshooting step to consider is a factory reset. This will revert the phone back to its original factory condition. Make sure to backup your phone data before performing this step.
- Turn off the phone.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
- Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
- When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs. In case it does you should try to check if the car Bluetooth system has any firmware updates available then update it accordingly.
