How to fix Samsung Galaxy Note 8 with error “Unfortunately, Camera has stopped” (easy steps)

The error message “Unfortunately, Camera has stopped” that seems to be bugging some of our readers that own the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 could be a result of a serious hardware problem or it could be just a minor issue with the app or the firmware. It’s basically a notification that tells the owners about the default camera app that crashed for some reason. Based on experience, the problem could be with the camera app and if that’s really the case, then you don’t have to worry so much because you can fix it on your own and you can continue snapping pictures or recording videos in no time.

In this post, I will help you troubleshoot your Galaxy Note 8 with a camera app that keeps crashing. We will try to rule out each possibility so that we can determine what the problem is all about and formulate a solution that may fix the issue for good. How to fix Galaxy Note 8 with “Camera has stopped” error

The following methods have been proven effective to determine what an issue with the device is. We don’t suggest things that can potentially damage your phone or mess it up even more so you can rest assured that our solutions are safe. However, if you feel like one of our solutions is unsafe for your data and/or device, then you always have the choice to not follow it.

Now, about this problem, here’s what you need to do to fix it…

First solution: Run your phone in safe mode

Usually, I would suggest first to restart your phone because maybe the problem is just due to a minor glitch in the system or hardware. Those glitches can easily be fixed by a reboot but in this case, I won’t suggest it because just by doing this procedure, you’re already refreshing your phone’s memory since you also need to restart your device to get into safe mode.

When the phone enters safe mode, all third-party apps are temporarily disabled. It is important to do this because more often than not, the cause of the camera crash are third-party apps that also use the camera to perform some of its services. So, if the camera doesn’t crash in safe mode, it means that the cause of the problem is a third-party app or service. The next thing you should do is find out which of your apps is the culprit and uninstall it.

How to run Note 8 in Safe Mode

Turn the device off.
Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen appearing on the screen.
When SAMSUNG appears on the screen, release the Power key.
Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
When Safe mode appears in the bottom left corner of the screen, release the Volume down key.

Once the phone enters this mode, open the camera and take some pictures to test if the error would still show up. Assuming that the problem is fixed, uninstall every app that you think is causing the problem:

From the Home screen, swipe up on an empty spot to open the Apps tray.
Tap Settings > Apps.
Tap the desired application in the default list.
To display preinstalled apps, tap Menu > Show system apps.
Tap UNINSTALL > OK.

Determining what app is causing the problem is often a challenge to many users. So, you must uninstall apps that you recently installed first or those that you installed prior to the problem.

Second solution: Reset the Camera

By reset I mean clear the app’s cache and data. This will bring the device back to its default settings and all files created by the firmware to make it work smoothly will be replaced with new ones. If this problem is with the app only, then this procedure is more than enough to fix it:

From a Home screen, touch and swipe up or down to display all apps.
From a Home screen, navigate: Settings > Apps.
Tap App Manager.
Locate then tap Camera.
Tap Storage.
Tap CLEAR CACHE.
Tap Cached data.
Tap CLEAR.

This is the most effective solution to almost all app-related problems but then there’s no guarantee that it will work to all cases. So, in case the problem continues after this, then the next method will definitely fix the problem.

Third solution: Wipe cache partition

If there are system caches that got corrupted, things like this may also occur as the overall performance of the phone will be affected. Aside from app crashes, you may also encounter freezes, lags, crashes and random reboots. Wipe the cache partition to rule out the possibility that this problem is due to corrupt system cache:

Turn off the device.
Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
When the Android logo displays, release all three keys.
An ‘Installing system update’ message will show for 30 – 60 seconds before the Android system recovery menu options appear.
Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
Press Power key to select.
Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
Press the Power key to restart the device.

Your phone will take a little time booting up after the cache partition is wiped off of its contents as it will rebuild or recreate those caches. Don’t be alarmed if the phone gets stuck on the logo for a minute or two after this just don’t turn it off so that what were deleted will be replaced successfully.

Fourth solution: Do the Master Reset

A master reset is necessary only if all the preceding procedures failed to fix the problem. A reset will bring the phone back to its factory settings and delete all files stored in your phone’s internal storage. It’s often the most effective solution to apps and firmware issues so there’s a big chance this problem will be fixed by it. However, make sure that you make a backup of your important files and data prior to the reset as they will be deleted.

Turn off the device.
Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
Press Power button to select.
Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
Press the Power key to restart the device.

If the problem continues after this, then bring your phone back to the store or to the shop so that a technician can determine if the problem is with the sensor.
