How to fix Galaxy A8 Plus 2018 that keeps freezing and lagging

More often than not, freezes and lags are caused by some issues in the firmware. In other words, you don’t need a technician to fix this problem for as long as the firmware is intact and hasn’t been modified in any way. Now, here are the things you should do to make your phone work perfectly again…

First solution: Reboot your Galaxy A8 Plus 2018

If it’s the first time that you encountered this problem, it might be due to a glitch in either the firmware or the hardware. Glitches can always be fixed by a reboot that’s why it’s necessary that before doing anything, you should try rebooting your phone and see if the problem is fixed. So, hit that power key and restart your phone and if the problem continues after it, try doing the forced reboot:

  • Press and hold the volume down and power keys at the same time for 10 seconds or until the phone reboots.

This procedure simulates battery disconnect which refreshes your phone’s memory and reloads all services and core functions. If the problem continues after this, you should try the next solution.

Second solution: Run phone in safe mode, uninstall apps causing problems

We have to find out if the problem is due to an app or two and if it is, it’s just logical to get rid of such app so your phone can function better. But you know, that’s easier said than done as it takes patience to know the app that causes the issue. Try to follow these steps to run your phone in safe mode:

  1. Turn off your phone.
  2. Press and hold the Power button for a few seconds.
  3. When the Samsung logo appears, release the Power button then immediately hold the Volume Down button.
  4. Keep holding the Volume Down button until the phone reboots.
  5. When your phone boots up, you will see the Safe Mode label at the bottom left corner of the screen.

Assuming the phone works perfectly while in safe mode, then it’s time to go after the apps that you suspect are causing the problem. You have to uninstall them one by one and reboot your phone in normal mode to test. You can also just uninstall them in normal mode. The purpose of rebooting your phone in safe mode is to know if the phone works normally or not.

This is how you uninstall an app from your phone:

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Apps.
  3. Tap the desired application in the default list or tap 3 dots icon > Show system apps to display preinstalled apps.
  4. Tap the desired application.
  5. Tap Uninstall.
  6. Tap Uninstall again to confirm.

However, the the freezes and lags still occur even in safe mode, try the next solution.

Third solution: Wipe cache partition

Performance issues are also due to some corrupt system caches. They may be just some small temporary files, they’re very important in making your phone work perfectly and run buttery smooth. We don’t know for sure if that’s where the problem lies but it’s a possibility you have to rule out. This is how you wipe the cache partition in your phone:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds, then ‘No command’ before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe cache partition”.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key to highlight “yes” and press the Power key to select.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Don’t worry, none of your files and data will be deleted if you did this, only the system caches but they will also be replaced with new ones the first time the phone boots up after wiping the cache partition.

Fourth solution: Backup your files and reset your phone

This is the ultimate fix to these issues but it often serves as the last resort because of the hassle it entails. Depending on the number of files and data you have in your phone, it may take a few minutes to a few hours to make a backup and you really can’t be sure if you’ve backed up everything that’s why we always steer away from doing a reset. However, in this case, there’s no other option so make sure you make a backup of your files and data, disable factory reset protection by removing your google account from your phone. Once everything is set and ready, follow these steps:

  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe data / factory reset.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  7. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  8. When the master reset is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.
