Performance issues occur from time to time even to high-end phones. In fact, we have received quite a lot of complaints from our readers saying their devices started to run slow after an update or any other situations. Recently, there has been quite a lot of applications that crashed including Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat and while these issues could be isolated, we seem to have received a surge of complaints from Samsung Galaxy A7 owners who reported that their phones started to become sluggish and slow.
In this post, I will walk you through in troubleshooting your Galaxy A7 that started to run slowly without apparent reason or cause. Let’s try to consider every possibility and rule them out one after another until we can determine what the problem really is. That way, we can try to formulate a solution that may fix the problem for good. And since it’s not the first time I encountered this problem, I will share with the solution I’ve used before to fix similar problems. How to troubleshoot sluggish and slow Galaxy A7 smartphone
We will try an exhaustive troubleshooting technique for this problem. With that said, we will start from the possibility that it could be just a minor glitch or cause by some applications. Now, here’s what you should do…
First solution: Reboot your phone
It’s very easy and you may be hesitant to do it just because it’s a very simple procedure and you may be thinking it can’t anything to fix this problem. Well, a reboot is a very effective method to fix almost all problems as long as they’re not really that serious. So, if you haven’t done this since the phone started to become sluggish, then try it. If the phone is still slow after the reboot, don’t give up just yet–try doing the forced restart.
Press and hold both the volume down and power keys at the same time for 10 seconds or more. The phone will reboot like it normally does but this procedure refreshes the memory as well as reloads all apps, services and core functions. It’s far more effective than the normal restart. However, if the problem continues after this, then try the next procedure.

Second Solution: Run your phone in Safe Mode
It’s very much possible that the cause of the sluggishness is one or more third-party apps but since we’re not really sure about it, it’s advisable to run your phone in safe mode first to temporarily disable all third-party applications. This won’t fix the problem but will immediately give an idea if third-party apps have something to do with it. Here’s how you do it:
- Turn the device off.
- Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen.
- When “SAMSUNG” appears on the screen, release the Power key.
- Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
- Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
- Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
- Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.
Continue using your phone like you normally do even in this mode. You may not be able all third-party apps but you can still use pre-installed ones. If you notice that the phone is working perfectly and not sluggish in any way, then it means that there is an app or a group of apps that’s causing the problem. Find which app it is and then do these steps to uninstall it…
- From the Home screen, tap the Apps tray.
- Tap Settings > Apps.
- Tap the desired application in the default list or tap 3 dots icon > Show system apps to display preinstalled apps.
- Tap the desired application.
- Tap Uninstall.
- Tap Uninstall again to confirm.
On the other hand, if the phone is still sluggish even in safe mode or after you uninstalled apps you suspect are causing the problem, then you should try the next procedure.
Third Solution: Reset all Settings in your phone
Sometimes, due to some misconfiguration of the phone’s settings it may also cause different types of issues. So, to eliminate that suspicion all you need to do is to reset all the settings and see if the performance will be back to normal. Resetting all settings actually has similar effects as with the full reset but it doesn’t delete your files and data. So, it’s safe for your files but very effective in dealing with this kind of problem. Here’s how you do it:
- From a Home screen, swipe up or down from the center of the display to access the apps screen.
- Navigate: Settings Settings icon > Backup and reset.
- From the Reset section, tap Reset settings.
- Review the info then tap RESET SETTINGS.
- If presented, enter the current PIN, password, or pattern.
- To confirm, review the info then tap RESET SETTINGS.
Should the problem continue to bug you after doing this, then you still have a couple of things you could try to fix it.
Fourth Solution: Delete the System Cache
Another thing we have to rule out is the possibility that this problem could just become of some corrupt system caches. These temporary files are prone to corruption and when it happens, performance issues often occur including freezes, lags, sluggishness and app crashes. You can delete them so that they will be replaced with new ones. Here’s how you do that:
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds, then ‘No command’ before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe cache partition”.
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key to highlight “yes” and press the Power key to select.
- When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
After wiping the cache partition off and the problem continues, then you have no other choice but to reset your device just to address its slow performance.
Fourth Solution: Perform Master Reset
When it comes to problems with the firmware and apps, a master reset can fix them however, you may lose some of your important files and data as it will delete all third-party files that are stored in internal storage. It’s a very effective method but before you actually do it, make sure to backup your files and data.
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds, then ‘No command’ before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
- Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe data / factory reset.
- Press Power button to select.
- Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
- Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
- When the master reset is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
