Troubleshooting Galaxy A20 that keeps freezing and lagging

When troubleshooting a phone that keeps freezing or lagging incessantly, you need to be thorough to effectively fix the problem and to avoid loss of data. That said, here are the things you need to do to make your Galaxy A20 that keeps freezing work perfectly again…

First solution: Force restart your Galaxy A20

The first thing you need to do when troubleshooting a device with software issue is to perform the forced restart. It is a simulated battery removal that refreshes your phone’s memory and reloads its apps and services. If the freezes and lags are due to minor firmware problem or glitch, then this procedure is more than enough to fix them. Here’s how you do it on your Galaxy A20:

  1. Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet.
  2. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well.
  3. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy A20 logo shows on the screen.

When the phone has finished the reboot, try to see if it still keeps freezing and lagging. If it does, then move on to the next solution.

Second solution: Run the phone in safe mode

We need to know if these issues are caused by third-party apps. There are times when apps go rogue and cause inconsistencies in the system and performance issues are often the most common signs. Restart your phone in safe mode to know if your downloaded apps have something to do with this problem. Here’s how you do that:

  1. Press and hold the Power key until options show.
  2. Tap and hold the Power off option until it changes into Safe Mode.
  3. Tap the Safe mode icon to restart your device.
  4. Once the reboot is successful, you should see ‘Safe mode’ at the lower-left corner of the screen.

When in safe mode, try to observe your phone to know if it still keeps freezing and lagging. If the problems are fixed, then follow these steps to probe further.

  1. Restart your phone normal to boot into standard mode.
  2. Remember the apps you installed around the time when the phone started to keep freezing or lagging.
  3. Once you already have an app in mind, swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  4. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
  5. Scroll to and then tap Apps.
  6. Find and tap suspected app.
  7. Tap Storage.
  8. Touch Clear data and tap OK to confirm.
  9. Tap the back key once and then touch Uninstall.
  10. Confirm that you want to remove the app from your phone.

However, if the freezes and lags still occur even in safe mode, then it means that the problem could be with the firmware. So, move on to the next solution.

Third solution: Reset all settings to fix phone that keeps freezing

Before troubleshooting the firmware, try to reset all settings of your device first so that it will be brought back to its original configuration and see if the problem still occurs. Here’s how you do it on your A20:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  2. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
  3. Scroll to and tap General management.
  4. Touch Reset.
  5. Tap Reset settings.
  6. Tap the Reset settings button.
  7. If prompted, enter your PIN, Password or Pattern.
  8. Finally, tap Reset.

If the device still keeps freezing and lagging after this, then proceed with the troubleshooting of the firmware.

Fourth solution: Delete the system cache

When the system cache gets corrupted, which happens more often than we thought, performance issues like freezes and lags, and even app crashes will occur. Delete the old cache so that it will be replaced with a new one and this is how it’s done:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Galaxy A20 logo shows, release all three keys.
  4. Your Galaxy A20 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
  6. Press Power key to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
  8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

After this, try to see if your phone still keeps freezing and lagging. If it still does, then it’s time for the ultimate solution.
