How to fix Samsung Galaxy A20 that’s running slow

Troubleshooting Galaxy A20 that’s running slow or has poor performance

If a phone like the Galaxy A20 started running slow but doesn’t have any issues turning on or booting up, then you can expect it to be just an issue with the firmware and not the hardware. It means that after this troubleshooting guide, you may be able to make your phone run like it was before. With that being said, here’s what you need to do: 

First solution: Restart your phone in Safe mode

The purpose of this procedure is for us to know immediately if this performance issue is caused by a third-party app or a firmware problem. Doing this will temporarily disable all downloaded apps. So, if the phone runs normally while in this mode, it means that there’s an app or two that caused the phone to run slow. And if that’s the case, don’t worry too much as you can fix it on your own. Here’s how you restart your device in safe mode: 

1. Press and hold the Power key until options show. 
2. Tap and hold the Power off option until it changes into Safe Mode. 
3. Tap the Safe mode icon to restart your device.
4. Once the reboot is successful, you should see ‘Safe mode’ at the lower-left corner of the screen. 

Assuming that the problem doesn’t occur while your phone is in this mode, follow these steps to determine the cause…

1. Restart your phone normal to boot into standard mode. 
2. Remember the apps you installed about the time when the phone started to run slow.
3. Once you already have an app in mind, swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down. 
4. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner. 
5. Scroll to and then tap Apps. 
6. Find and tap suspected app. 
7. Tap Storage. 
8. Touch Clear data and tap OK to confirm.
9. Tap the back key once and then touch Uninstall. 
10. Confirm that you want to remove the app from your phone. 

On the other hand, if your phone is still running slow even in safe mode, then move on to the next solution.

Second solution: Reset All Settings to fix phone that’s running slow

The responsiveness of your phone may have been affected after some settings were changed especially if the developer options were enabled. Most of the time, we don’t know the default values of the settings we changed. Therefore, you need to do this procedure to bring all your phone settings back to the factory defaults. 

1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down. 
2. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner. 
3. Scroll to and tap General management. 
4. Touch Reset. 
5. Tap Reset settings. 
6. Tap the Reset settings button. 
7. If prompted, enter your PIN, Password or Pattern. 
8. Finally, tap Reset.

After the reset, observe your phone closely to know if it’s still running slow or if the performance issue has already been fixed. 

Third solution: Delete the system cache

Another possibility we need to rule out is that this problem could have been caused by a corrupt system cache. The system cache is a collection of small files used by the system to make the phone run smoothly after the first used. There are times when the system cache gets corrupted and that will always result to performance issues like this. It’s recommended to delete the system cache from time to time so that it will be replaced with a new one. Here’s how you do that: 

1. Turn off the device.
2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
3. When the Galaxy A20 logo shows, release all three keys.
4. Your Galaxy A20 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step. 
5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
6. Press Power key to select.
7. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Once your phone has successfully rebooted, observe to see if it’s still running slow. If it still does, then it’s time for the ultimate solution.

Fourth solution: Backup your files and reset your phone

At this point, it’s best to just reset your phone to make it run smoothly again. I can assure you that a reset will fix this problem. However, make sure to create a copy of your important files and data as they will be deleted during the process. After the backup, remove your google and Samsung accounts so that you won’t be locked out of your device. When everything is in order, follow these steps to reset your phone: 

1. Turn off the device.
2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
3. When the Galaxy A20 logo shows, release all three keys.
4. Your Galaxy A20 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step. 
5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
6. Press Power button to select.
7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
10. Press the Power key to restart the device.
