How To Fix LG V40 ThinQ Stuck On Airplane Mode

Problem:  Hi there, I seem to be having the issue of the airplane mode stuck on.  It’s not actually on as when I click it it asks if I want to enable it, or if I go into settings it shows it as off.  But when I swipe down from the top, it shows it as half on (icon is faded blue instead of full blue like when its fully enabled) I’ve tried safe mode, resetting, even factory resetting the device but nothing works. Thankfully wifi works, but where the network information should be on the top right, there is just a circle with a line through it.  This just seemed to happen spontaneously while I was out getting groceries today.

Solution: Before performing any troubleshooting steps on this device it’s best to make sure that it is running on the latest software version first. If an update is available then make sure to download and install it.

What we will be doing right now is to check if this is caused by a software glitch. Follow the troubleshooting steps listed below which are recommended for this particular problem.

Perform a Soft Reset

Whenever your phone becomes unresponsive the best thing to do is a soft reset. This is will also work in this case as it will refresh your phone software and will usually fix most minor software glitches. The soft reset is done by pressing and holding the Power button and Volume Down until the device powers off, approximately 8 seconds, then release. When the phone turns on check if it the issue still occurs.

Try using a different SIM card

To eliminate the possibility of this issue being caused by a faulty SIM try using a new SIM card. You should also make sure that you are in an area with good network signal reception.

Check if the problem occurs in Safe Mode

Sometimes the problem can be caused by an app that you recently downloaded You can check if this is what’s causing the problem by starting the phone in Safe Mode as only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run in this mode.

  • With the screen on, press and hold the Power key.
  • In the options menu that displays, press and hold Power off.
  • When prompted to restart in Safe Mode, tap OK.
  • After your device restarts, it displays Safe mode at the bottom of the screen.

If the issue does not occur in this mode then the problem could be  caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Wipe the cache partition of the phone

Your phone will store temporary data in a dedicated partition in its storage space which helps the device run apps smoothly. If this data gets corrupted then issues can occur on the device. To make sure that this is not what’s causing the problem you will have to clear the cache partition of the phone.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the Power and Volume down buttons.
  • When the LG logo appears, quickly release and then re-hold the Power button while continuing to hold the Volume down button.
  • Use the Volume down button to select Wipe Cache .
  • Press the Power button to confirm.
  • Use the Volume down button to highlight Yes.
  • Allow several minutes for the process to complete.

Check if the issue still occurs.

Perform a factory reset

One last troubleshooting step you can perform if the above steps fails to fix the problem is a factory reset. Take note that this will erase your phone data so make sure to create a backup copy before proceeding.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the Power and Volume down buttons.
  • When the LG logo appears, quickly release and then re-hold the Power button while continuing to hold the Volume down button.
  • ‘Factory data reset’ appears.
  • Use the Volume down button to highlight Yes.
  • Press the Power button to confirm.
  • Erase all user data and restore default settings’ appears.
  • Use the Volume down button to highlight Yes.
  • Press the Power button to reset the device.

If the above steps fails  to fix the problem then this is most likely caused by a faulty hardware component. The best thing you can do right now is to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
