How To Fix LG V40 ThinQ Camera Pictures Are Not Showing In Gallery

Problem: When I take pictures with the camera, a preview shows in the thumbnail on the lower left corner. When I unlock my phone to view it, the picture is not in my gallery or DICM. Sometimes, if I try to open the preview without unlocking my phone, it tells me no recent pictures were taken since phone was last locked, even though I can see the image that was taken in the small icon. What happened to these pictures and can they be recovered?

Solution: Before performing any troubleshooting steps on this phone it’s best to make sure that it is running on the latest software version. If an update is available then I suggest that you download and install it first.

Do you have a microSD card installed in your phone and is this being set as the default storage location of your photos? If it is then try removing this card then take some photos with your phone. These photos will automatically be stored in the internal storage of the phone. Check if you are able to access these photos. If the issue does not occur then the problem could be caused by a faulty microSD card. I would suggest that you get a new card. As for the data stored in your card you can try to use a computer to recover it.

If your phone does not have a microSD card or if the issue still occurs even when the default storage location of your photos and videos is set to the internal storage then proceed with the additional troubleshooting steps listed below.

Perform a soft reset

This step is usually performed when the phone is unresponsive but should also work in this case as it will refresh the operating system. Press and hold the Power button and Volume Down until the device powers off, approximately 8 seconds, then release.

Check if the issue still occurs.

Clear the cache and data of the Camera and Gallery apps

There’s a possibility that the problem could be caused by corrupt temporary data within the Camera or Gallery app. If this is the case then you will need to clear the cache and data of these apps.

  • From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  • Tap the ‘General’ tab > Apps & notifications.
  • Tap App info.
  • Tap the filter to select the following: All
  • Tap the desired app, then Storage.
  • Tap Clear cache or Clear Data then YES

Start the phone in Safe Mode

To check if an app you downloaded is causing the problem you should start the phone in Safe Mode. When the phone operates in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run.

  • Turn off the phone.
  • In the options menu that displays, press and hold Power off.
  • When prompted to restart in Safe Mode, tap OK.
  • After your device restarts, it displays Safe mode at the bottom of the screen.

Try to check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by a downloaded app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Wipe the cache partition of the phone from the recovery mode

Clearing the cache partition of the phone will erase the temporary system data which if corrupted can cause this problem.

  • From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  • Tap the ‘General’ tab.
  • Tap Storage > Internal storage.
  • Wait for menu options to finish calculating.
  • Tap Free up space.
  • Tap Temporary files & raw files.
  • Select the following options: Cached data, Clip tray temporary files, Raw files from camera
  • Tap Delete > DELETE.

Check if the issue still occurs.

Perform a factory reset

One last troubleshooting step to consider is a factory reset. Take note that this will erase your phone data so make sure to create a backup copy before proceeding.

  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the Power and Volume down buttons.
  • When the LG logo appears, quickly release and then re-hold the Power button while continuing to hold the Volume down button.
  • When the ‘Delete all user data (including LG and carrier apps) and reset all settings’ message appears, use the Volume down button to highlight Yes.
  • Press the Power button to reset the device

Once the reset is complete restart the phone. In case the issue still persists then you will need to bring this device to a service center and have it checked.
