How To Fix LG G7 ThinQ Battery Drains Fast

Problem: I just watched my LG G7 ThinQ drain from 20% to powering off within 5 minutes.  It hasn’t been doing this, I installed an app last night that I uninstalled within a couple of hours, because it seemed to be draining the battery pretty quickly.  It isn’t listed in my apps anymore, but could there be something left of it still? If so, how do I permanently delete it? I went through what I think are the correct steps to uninstall the app…

Solution: The LG G7 ThinQ is equipped with a 3000mAh battery which should give it a long usage time between charges. A single full charge of the battery can usually provide 23 hours of talk time or 10 hours of browsing time.

Start the phone in Safe Mode

In your case you are experiencing a rapid battery drain at 20% capacity and you mentioned that this issue occurred right after installing an app. To check if a downloaded app is causing this problem you should start the phone in Safe Mode. When the phone works in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run. In case the issue does not occur in this mode then find out what app this is and uninstall it.

Uninstall downloaded app

To uninstall a downloaded app from your phone just follow the steps listed below.

  • From a Home screen go to Settings –  Apps & notification – App info.
  • Select the appropriate app.
  • Tap uninstall.

Backup your phone data then do a factory reset

In case the battery drain problem still occurs even in Safe Mode then you should proceed with a factory reset. This will allow you to check if the problem is caused by a software glitch. Just make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

  • From the Home screen, Settings.
  • Tap the ‘General’ tab.
  • Tap Restart & reset.
  • Tap Factory data reset.
  • If desired, tap the Erase SD card checkbox.
  • Tap RESET PHONE > Delete all > RESET

You can also do a factory reset from the recovery mode.

  • Turn off the phone.
  • Press and hold the Power and Volume down buttons.
  • When the LG logo appears, quickly release and then re-hold the Power button while continuing to hold the Volume down button.
  • When the ‘Delete all user data (including LG and carrier apps) and reset all settings’ message appears, use the Volume down button to highlight Yes.
  • Press the Power button to reset the device.

Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone just yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs. In case it does then this could already be a hardware related problem. The best thing to do right now is to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
