How to Fix iPhone 16 CarPlay Not Connecting or Keeps Disconnecting
Several iPhone 16 users report that wireless CarPlay disconnects frequently during drives. These troubleshooting steps address the most common causes of CarPlay connection problems.
Fix #1: Restart Both Devices
CarPlay disconnections on the iPhone 16 are often caused by a Bluetooth or Wi-Fi handshake failure. Restarting both the phone and the car’s infotainment system usually fixes it.
- Force restart the phone (Volume Up, Volume Down, hold Side button).
- Turn off the car, wait 30 seconds, and start it again.
Fix #2: Forget and Re-Pair the Car
- Go to Settings > General > CarPlay.
- Tap your car and select Forget This Car.
- On the car’s infotainment system, delete the iPhone from Bluetooth settings.
- Re-pair by plugging in the USB cable or initiating wireless pairing.
Fix #3: Reset Network Settings
Wireless CarPlay depends on both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. A network settings reset clears any corrupted connection data.
- Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Fix #4: Try a Different USB Cable
If using wired CarPlay, a damaged or non-MFi-certified cable can cause intermittent disconnections. Use an Apple-branded or MFi-certified cable.
Fix #5: Update iOS and Car Firmware
CarPlay compatibility issues are frequently patched on both sides.
- Update iOS via Settings > General > Software Update.
- Check your car manufacturer’s website for infotainment system updates.
