How to fix Huawei P30 Pro poor battery life | how to extend battery life

If you have poor battery life issue on your Huawei P30 Pro, there are a number of things that you must do to deal with it. Learn what you can do by following our solutions below.

Huawei P30 Pro poor battery life solution #1: Check your apps

One of the common reasons for poor battery life on a Huawei P30 Pro is apps running in the background. There can be a number of reasons why this happens. In some cases, poorly coded apps may not work as expected. In some situations, an app may be intentionally designed to do sinister things like hijack your browser and mine for bitcoins, steal information, or help in spreading malicious software. Other apps may affect other third party apps and cause problems.

In most cases, legit apps are simply doing what they’re supposed to be doing. Apps like Facebook, Twitter, and other social networking apps are notorious for draining battery often as they are designed to regularly get new information from their servers. If you use a lot of such apps, they may be the reason why your battery is draining abnormally fast. If you installed a lot of apps that needs to get updates from remote servers regularly, you should consider doing other moves to minimize battery consumption such as turning internet connection off (mobile data and wifi) when not in use, closing apps, updating apps, etc. Keep in mind that even if there are no malware or viruses in your devices, your device may still suffer from poor battery life if you don’t do anything about it. And there’s no one move that can truly fix fast battery drain issue. You’ll need to do a combination of many other steps to minimize battery consumption every day. For starters, make sure that you close or quit all apps that are actively running or in the background.

Huawei P30 Pro poor battery life solution #2: Turn off network functions

While it’s convenient to simply leave your device constantly connected to the internet, it’s one of the main reasons as well why battery life on any smartphone is less than ideal. If you want to extend battery life in a day and there’s no clear time when the next charging opportunity is, turning off your internet might help. This is especially helpful if there are a lot of applications that runs in the background. Without apps regularly checking for updates, you can stretch the current remaining battery level far longer.

To turn off wifi:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Wireless & networks
  3. Tap Wi-Fi and tap the switch to turn it off.

To turn off mobile data:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Wireless & networks
  3. Tap Mobile data and tap the switch to turn it off.

Also, make sure that you turn off Bluetooth when you’re not using it. Like wifi and mobile data functions, Bluetooth uses radio that can put pressure on the battery if left turned on for a long time. To turn off Bluetooth:

  1. Open Settings app
  2. Tap Device connectivity.
  3. Tap Bluetooth and tap the switch to disable Bluetooth function.

Huawei P30 Pro poor battery life solution #3: Lower screen brightness

Your Huawei P30 Pro has great looking colorful OLED capacitive touchscreen but that does come at a cost. The brighter the screen is, the more power the system requires to keep it going. Try to lower screen brightness to the lowest level you’re comfortable with and stick with it. Or, you can try to set screen brightness to Automatic so the system helps you in determining the ideal brightness level depending on your environment. If the device senses that you’re in a brigtly-lit location, screen brightness will be automatically boosted. The opposite happens when you’re in a dark area.

To access screen brightness settings:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Display.
  3. Tap the switch next to Automatic to enable it.

Huawei P30 Pro poor battery life solution #4: Soft reset

Rebooting your device should be the next move if none of the suggestions above has not helped so far. This will refresh the system and potentially get rid of the bug as well. Restarting a device can sometimes do wonders. Try to do a forced reboot by pressing and holding the Power key for 10 to 15 seconds. If your phone works, it should reboot and you should feel a vibration and see the Huawei logo. In case you do not feel the vibration and the screen is still blank, then simply press and hold the Power Key for more time until you see the device restart itself.

If nothing changes after attempting to reboot the device a few times, you can abandon this troubleshooting and proceed to the next ones below.

Huawei P30 Pro poor battery life solution #5: Install updates

If you continue to have poor battery life on your Huawei P30, the next move is to ensure that the software is fully updated. Software and apps updates usually offer fix patch to obliterate existing problems inflicted by random bugs and malicious software. If you haven’t set your device and/or apps to auto-update, then you will need to manually install pending updates. Here’s how to manually check for software updates on the Huawei P30:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap System.
  3. Select System Update.
  4. Tap the option to Check for Updates.

To check for any pending app updates you’ve downloaded through the Google Play Store app, launch Play Store then navigate to the Updates section. You will then see a list of apps with pending updates. Just tap on Update to install individual app updates or tap Update All to update apps simultaneously.

Don’t forget to reboot/soft reset your P30 after installing updates to ensure all new software changes are properly implemented and to prevent any app from going rogue.

Huawei P30 Pro poor battery life solution #6: Uninstall apps

The more apps you install on your phone, the higher the chance that a problem may occur. One such problems is poor battery life. Although this is not considered a definitive solution to this problem, keeping the number of installed apps in the system can potentially help in reducing battery consumption. Keep in mind that some apps may continue working in the background even if you haven’t opened or used it for weeks or months. If you have a lot of installed apps, it’s possible that a number of them may actually be working without your knowledge. Try to spare some time checking all the apps in your phone and delete those that you haven’t used for a long time. If you have apps that have been dormant for at least 2 weeks, you don’t most likely need them. Get rid of them for now. You can always reinstall anyway if a need for them arises in the future.

Huawei P30 Pro poor battery life solution #7: Scan device for malware

Android viruses or malicious software are constant threats nowadays so you should take precautions to avoid them. A lot of malware not only steal sensitive information and send them to their hackers but also continue to run in the background to do other tasks. Their presence not only compromises your data’s security but also put pressure on the battery at all times.

Many Android users don’t often realize that malware are spread by other apps. That innocent, cute looking game may actually be acting as a gateway for a developer to compromise the defenses of your phone. Some malicious apps try to take control of a device first (often without a user’s knowledge), then install more bad apps later on. This is one of the main reasons why you should be very picky when installing apps. Although Google has made strides in filtering apps in Play Store, it’s not perfect. A lot of bad apps can neutralize automated filtering systems so it falls on you to keep your system safe. If you suspect that your phone may be hosting malware, try to install an antivirus app (be sure that it’s legit and not another malware that disguises itself as an antivirus) and scan your phone with it. Or, you can wipe the phone with factory reset and then install only apps that are safe.

Huawei P30 Pro poor battery life solution #8: Change wallpaper to black

Another way to save on battery is by using a black wallpaper on both the Lock screen and Home screen. The OLED screen on your Huawei P30 Pro uses more power if the screen is trying to display more colors. A black wallpaper will reduce battery consumption, however tiny the difference is.

Huawei P30 Pro poor battery life solution #9: Use Power Saving Mode

If you have an emergency and you need your phone to last longer than usual, you can try using its Power Saving Mode. Power SAving Mode will make system changes by slowing down the CPU, lowering screen brightness, among others. Here’s how to use it:

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Battery.
  3. Tap the switch of Power Saving Mode to turn it on.

If you want a more effective way to save battery power, we recommend that you use Ultra Power Saving Mode. This will drastically make changes to your phone but still allows you to do some basic network functions like send and receive texts, make and receive calls, among others.

Huawei P30 Pro poor battery life solution #10: Clear cache partition

In order to load apps quickly, Android stores frequently used items like website links, images, videos, ads, among others in a part in internal storage called cache partition. Sometimes, these items collectively called system cache may get outdated or corrupted causing performance problems or bugs. To ensure that you phone runs efficiently and the cache in top shape, you want to regularly clear the cache partition (about once every few months). When dealing with any app issue, this can also be one of the troubleshooting steps. Here’s how to do it:

  1. With your phone turned off, press and hold both the Volume Up and Power buttons simultaneously for at least 10 seconds.
  2. Let go of the buttons when the Honor logo appears.
  3. Shortly after seeing the logo, the EMUI screen shows up with the recovery mode options.
  4. Press the Volume Down button to scroll to and highlight Wipe cache partition option.
  5. Then press the Power button to confirm selection.
  6. Use the Volume buttons to scroll to and highlight the next options and Power button to confirm selection.

Huawei P30 Pro poor battery life solution #11: Factory reset

Another way to effectively fix  poor battery life on your Huawei P30 Pro is to return its software settings to defaults. If you haven’t tried this yet, be sure that you create a backup of your personal data ahead of time before you erase your phone. There are two methods to perform a factory reset on your Huawei P30. You want to do the first one first if there’s no problem going under Settings menu.

Method 1: Hard reset on Huawei P30 via Settings

Wiping your phone with factory reset will automatically erase information from your device’s internal storage. The software environment on your device is basically returned to its original form, just like when it left the factory. This means that everything you added to the device like files, photos, videos, and apps will all be deleted. If you don’t want to lose irreplaceable data, make sure to create a backup ahead of time.

There can be many different reasons why a user may want to factory reset a device. If your situation calls for a Hard reset on Huawei P30  and you are able to access your device’s settings menu, then this first method is for you. It’s easier to do compared to the second one below so this is a go-to method for you.

To perform a Hard reset on Huawei P30 via Settings:

  1. Create a backup of your personal data.
  2. Turn on the device.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Tap System.
  5. Choose Reset.
  6. Tap Reset all settings.
  7. Tap Reset all settings.
  8. Confirm the action by tapping on Reset all settings.
  9. Wait for factory reset to finish.

Method 2: Hard reset on Huawei P30 via Recovery Mode

This method is useful in one particular situation: when Settings menu is not accessible. There may be a variety of reasons why Settings menu may become unreachable. In some cases, the device may have simply frozen or unresponsive. At other times, it can be due to a problem that you are currently trying to troubleshoot. In any case, you must do Hard reset on Huawei P30 via Recovery Mode when the situation forces you to. We still recommend that you use the first method as your primary option for convenience reasons. Effects-wise, the two methods don’t have any difference at all. The device will be completely sanitized and all user data deleted after doing any of them.

To perform a Hard reset on Huawei P30 via Recovery Mode:

  1. Create a backup of your personal data.
  2. Turn off the mobile by pressing the Power key for a few moments.
  3. Press and hold Volume Up and Power buttons for a couple of seconds.
  4. When Recovery Mode appears let go of all keys.
  5. Now choose “wipe data/factory reset”. Use Volume buttons to navigate and the Power key to accept it.
  6. Confirm the operation by typing in “yes” and select “wipe data/factory reset”.
  7. When you see the Google Verification info confirm the operation by selecting “wipe data/factory reset”.
  8. Finally choose “reboot system now” by using the Power key.
