How To Fix Google Pixel 3 XL Bluetooth Keeps On Disconnecting
Problem: Disconnecting issues Pixel 3 XL & Kenwood DMX7018DABS I am in Italy and my phone was purchased through Google in the US. I just purchased the Kenwood screen for my vehicle and I have not been able to maintain connection via Android Auto with the car screen. I am torn whether the issue originates with Android Auto app, Bluetooth issues or lack of compatibility between the phone and the screen. I have reset both the device and the screen to factory settings with no success. The screen instructions say that the Pixel 2 is compatible but it doesn’t directly state that the Pixel 3XL is compatible; I am not sure this is an issue. I have ensure both the phone’s Android Auto app and Android Pie are update to date and the screen’s firmware is up to date to the latest published firmware. Can you suggest any solution? I am having a Pixel 2 phone shipped from the US to me in the coming days to test the screen with this older phone.
Solution: There are several factors to consider as to why the phone keeps getting disconnected from your car Bluetooth system. Listed below are the troubleshooting steps that you need to do to fix this problem.
Connect your phone to a different Bluetooth device
Try connecting your phone to a different Bluetooth device such as a speaker then check if it stays connected to this device. If it stays connected then the problem could be due to compatibility issues with the phone and the Kenwood system.
Update your phone software
Try to check if a software update is available for your phone then update is accordingly.
- Open your device’s Settings app
- Near the bottom, tap System and then Advanced and then System update. If you don’t see ‘Advanced’, tap About phone.
- You’ll see your update status. Follow any steps on the screen.
Update the Kenwood DMX7018DABS firmware
Consult the system manual on how to update the device firmware
Reset the phone and car audio Bluetooth connection then connect both devices
To forget the Bluetooth connection from the phone proceed with the steps listed below.
- Tap to open the Settings app on your Google phone.
- Tap Connected devices.
- Tap Bluetooth.
- Tap Settings on the Bluetooth devices that you are not currently using then select the option to Forget.
- If you see your car’s name in the list, it means that you paired your phone and car before. Tap Settings next to your car’s name then tap Forget. Doing so will erase your car along with other Bluetooth devices from your phone’s memory.
You should also forget the Bluetooth connection from your car system. Please consult the Kenwood manual on how to do this.
Once the above steps are done try connecting both devices again.
Backup your phone data then do a factory reset
In case the issue still persists then you should do a factory reset and try connecting the phone to you car when no apps are installed in the device. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing this procedure.
- Go into Settings and scroll down to select System.
- Tap on Reset options and then Erase all data (factory reset).
- Scroll down to acknowledge and tap Reset at the bottom.
- Confirm your PIN or passcode and continue.
- Wait until the reset is finished and then your phone restarts.
Once the reset is complete try to connect both devices again.
If the above steps fails to fix the problem then this might be caused by incompatibility issues. You should contact Kenwood regarding this matter as your phone model is still not listed as a compatible device to work with their system.
