Android Auto UI finally gets updated
Google is pushing out a new update to its Android Auto units. It’s been rumored for awhile now, and there was a moment where we thought it launched last month, but that wasn’t the case. However, it’s now here.
Android Auto has received a huge number of improvements — for one, there’s a new app layout. Hit the bottom left button to open your app drawer, which shows you all of your most commonly used apps first. Quick and easy to access.
Now, many app icons actually have the Google Assistant icon on them. Tapping that icon means that Assistant will actually read off that contextual information to you, such as calendar updates or a text message.
There’s also now one headache that has been fixed — better support for wide screen displays. Before, Android Auto came off as a little wonky on big displays, but this update should smooth things out more and give you more room.
And, of course, the coveted dark theme is included in this update as well. Be on the lookout for the official update to your Android Auto machine over the coming weeks.
