How to Fix Galaxy S25 Ultra Fingerprint Scanner Not Working

Several Galaxy S25 Ultra users report that the fingerprint scanner is unreliable, slow, or not working at all. The following fixes address the most common causes of fingerprint recognition failures.

Fix #1: Re-Register Fingerprints

Fingerprint data on the Galaxy S25 Ultra can become less accurate over time or after a software update. Deleting and re-adding prints often improves reliability.

  1. Go to Settings > Biometrics and Security > Fingerprints.
  2. Enter your PIN.
  3. Delete all saved fingerprints.
  4. Tap Add Fingerprint and register each finger again. Press firmly and cover the entire sensor area.

Fix #2: Remove the Screen Protector

Non-compatible screen protectors block the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. If you are using a tempered glass protector, switch to a TPU film protector or a Samsung-certified one.

Fix #3: Increase Touch Sensitivity

  1. Go to Settings > Display.
  2. Turn on Touch Sensitivity.

Fix #4: Clean Your Fingers and the Screen

Moisture, oils, or dirt on your fingers or the screen reduce sensor accuracy. Wipe both clean before scanning.

Fix #5: Force Restart

  1. Press and hold Volume Down + Power for about 10 seconds.

Fix #6: Check for Software Updates

  1. Go to Settings > Software Update > Download and Install.
