The 2018 version of this phone sports a 5.5 inch Super AMOLED display which although  only has a 720p resolution can still provide crisp and brilliant mages.  Despite its outstanding architecture this device can still suffer from some issues. One such issue which we will be addressing today is the “Unfortunately the Process com.android.phone Has Stopped” error which not only affects this phone but other devices as well. Before troubleshooting this problem it’s always best to make sure that your phone is running on the latest software version. If it doesn’t then I suggest you download and install the newest update for your device.

Reboot the phone

The first thing you need to do in this case is to simply restart the phone. This will refresh the phone operating system and will usually fix this problem. Now, if the issue still persists then proceed to the more advanced troubleshooting steps listed below.

Clear the cache and data of the phone app

Over the course of time the phone app will accumulate a lot of cached data which it will store in the phone. Sometimes this data can get corrupted which will lead to this problem. To eliminate this possibility you will have to clear the cache and data of the phone app.

  • From a Home screen, swipe up or down from the center of the display to access the apps screen
  • Go to Settings then Apps
  • Make sure that All apps is selected (upper-left).
  • Locate then select the Phone app.
  • Tap Storage.
  • Tap CLEAR CACHE.
  • Tap CLEAR DATA

Clear Cache and Data on the SIM Toolkit

Over the course of time the SIM Toolkit app will accumulate a lot of cached data which it will store in the phone. Sometimes this data can get corrupted which will lead to this problem. Since this app works in tandem with the phone app then you should also clear its cache and data.

  • From a Home screen, swipe up or down from the center of the display to access the apps screen
  • Go to Settings then Apps
  • Make sure that All apps is selected (upper-left).
  • Locate then select the SIM toolkit app.
  • Tap Storage.
  • Tap CLEAR CACHE.
  • Tap CLEAR DATA

Clear the cached data of the phone

Clearing all the cached data of the phone can also fix this issue.

  • From a Home screen, swipe up or down from the center of the display to access the apps screen.
  • Go to Settings – Device maintenance – Storage
  • Tap CLEAN NOW.

Wipe the cache partition of the phone

There are instances when the phone will suffer from firmware related issues which can be fixed without doing a master reset. This is where wiping the cache partition of the phone will come in.

  • Turn off the phone.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key at the same time.
  • When the phone powers on, the Android System Recovery screen appears approx. 30 seconds later.
  • Release all of the keys.
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight “wipe cache partition.”
  • Press the Power key to select.
  • Press the Volume down key to highlight “yes” and press the Power key to select.
  • When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.

Once completed try to check if the problem still occurs.

Perform a factory reset

In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then your only option right now is to do a factory reset. This will revert the phone back to its original factory condition. Make sure to backup your phone data before performing this step as it will be deleted in the process.

  • Turn off the phone.
  • Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
  • When the device logo screen displays, release only the Power key
  • When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  • Press the Volume down key several times key to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset.’
  • Press Power button to select.
  • Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  • Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  • When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  • Press the Power key to restart the device.
