How to Fix Fortnite Voice Chat Not Working

Voice chat not working in Fortnite prevents communication with your squad during matches. These fixes cover all platforms including PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and mobile.

Method 1: Check Voice Chat Settings

  1. Open Fortnite and go to Settings (gear icon).
  2. Go to the Audio tab.
  3. Make sure Voice Chat is set to On.
  4. Set Voice Chat Channel to Party or Game as needed.
  5. Set the correct Voice Chat Input Device and Output Device.

Method 2: Check Microphone Permissions

  1. On PC: Go to Windows Settings > Privacy > Microphone and make sure Fortnite has access.
  2. On PlayStation: Go to Settings > Sound > Microphone and check the input device.
  3. On Xbox: Go to Settings > Account > Privacy & online safety and enable voice communication.
  4. On Mobile: Go to phone Settings > Apps > Fortnite and enable Microphone permission.

Method 3: Restart the Game

  1. Close Fortnite completely.
  2. Disconnect and reconnect your headset.
  3. Relaunch Fortnite.
  4. Join a match and test voice chat.

Method 4: Check Parental Controls

  1. Open Fortnite and go to Settings > Parental Controls.
  2. Make sure voice chat is not restricted.
  3. On console, also check the platform’s parental control settings.
  4. Xbox and PlayStation have separate voice communication restrictions that override game settings.

Method 5: Reinstall the Game

  1. Uninstall Fortnite from your platform.
  2. Restart your device.
  3. Reinstall from the Epic Games Store, PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, or mobile app store.
  4. Log in and check if voice chat works.
