Problem #1: Huawei Nexus 6P reboots on its own, battery charge is erratic
My phone reads as having a lot of battery life in it but will suddenly shut itself off. Most times it won’t turn back on fully until I insert the charger. When it comes back on it will read as having lost 50% or more of the charge but as soon as it begins charging (within minutes) it’s back to where it was when it shutdown. This problem seemed to correspond with a recent security update but I can’t be sure it’s the cause. I did some of the things you recommend on your website to try to fix it. I put it in safe mode to see if it was a problem with an app but nothing changed. Eventually I did a factory reset but the problem remains. I’d be very grateful for any help you might be able to offer.
Solution: At this time, a lot of Nexus 6P are already relatively old in terms of smartphone life so the most likely cause is battery-related. Lithium-based batteries age and can lose significant capacity. There’s no direct way to test this but this may now be the problem of your device. The battery may had become weak and can no longer supply stable energy to the system. In some cases, a device may not restart as long as the system is not stressed enough. The problem usually occurs if the device is asked to perform more demanding tasks, which puts pressure on the system. This can strain the already weak battery, causing insufficient or unstable power output. Sometimes, it’s just a matter of battery calibration that can fix this type of issue so try to see if it works in your case.

To calibrate the operating system and the battery, follow these steps:
- Drain the battery completely. This means using your device until it powers down by its own and the battery level reads 0%.
- Charge the phone until it reaches 100%. Be sure to use original charging equipment for your device and let it charge up completely. Do not unplug your device for at least two more hours and also don’t use it while charging.
- After the elapsed time, unplug your device.
- Restart the device.
- Use your phone until it completely runs out of power again.
- Repeat steps 1-5.
Battery calibration usually works if a device has stopped getting accurate battery readings due to a software glitch. It doesn’t work if the battery itself has become damaged or has lost significant capacity. So, if nothing changes and your Nexus 6P still reboots on its own or shows sudden spike or loss in battery charge, you need to decide if you want to send it for repair or not. The most likely solution involves battery replacement so it’s gonna cost you.

Problem #2: How to fix a Huawei Nexus 6P battery issue: charge drops suddenly to 0%
I updated to Android 8.1.0 this morning and all seemed ok for a couple of hours. Suddenly the phone started dropping charge from 60% to 0% and switching off within 30 seconds to 1 minute. Initially it would not then switch back on and I thought I had a bootloop problem. After trying to reboot in recovery mode, eventually it restarted at the original 60% battery level again but still dropped all the charge at the same incredibly fast rate. This keeps happening time and time again. I had also just downloaded Photographers Companion from the Play Store but have now uninstalled it so I guess it’s not connected with that. Can you suggest what the problem is and what I should do? The battery is relatively new. Many thanks.
Solution: Like in Problem #1, there’s a chance that what your Nexus needs is just a battery calibration. If you’ve already tried that before contacting us, or if nothing positive happens after doing it, then go ahead with factory reset. You can also do some little digging on how to minimize battery drain in your device. The most common reason for most battery or power issues involves apps. The more apps you have, the higher the chance of a system becoming unstable or buggy. Try to see what happens when your phone has been factory reset and has no installed third party apps. If power appears normal and the battery won’t fluctuate for at least 24 hours, then you can assume apps or high number of them is the cause.
For reference, these are the steps to factory reset your Nexus 6P:
- Turn off the phone
- Hold the volume down button and Power button simultaneously until the device switches on.
- You should see “Start” with an arrow
- Tap volume down twice and the power button to enter Recovery Mode
- Hold the power button then press and release the volume up button
- Use the volume buttons to select wipe data/factory reset
- Choose “Yes – erase all data” with the power button
Problem #3: Huawei Nexus 6P stuck in boot loop after an update
Hi Team. I am using Huawei Nexus 6P since 2015. It was a wonderful phone but after receiving last Google security update it restarted automatically few times and then fell in Bootloop just like that. I searched internet and i got know that it’s a problem with the Snapdragon processor and need to fix up with some updates which is available in following link: https://www.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p-bootloop-fix/ Even after doing everything it was still stuck in Google logo and finally i gave up and gave it to repair. That guy flashed stock Android N ROM still no luck!. It did boot into OS 2 times without Google animation and again it restarted and the same thing Bootloop!! If you people can get me out of this problem then you are the genius people in this world!! Help me please. Thank you very much! Regards.
Solution: There’s no other solution left that we can suggest for an issue like yours. Flashing back your device’s stock ROM is the last drastic solution that can be tried. If a professional tried has already performed the solution initially, then you’re probably stuck with the device in this state right now. We can’t confirm if the guide in the link you provided works (although the author of that guide said he did) as its relatively dated at this time. Boot loop issue can be caused by some other factors but we do confirm that there was an unhealthy number of Nexus users in the past who encountered it after installing stock Google firmware. Due to the complexity of this issue, there’s no uniform way to speculate what may have gone wrong with your device. We suggest that you seek warranty repair if flashing stock ROM to your own Nexus has not fixed it.
