How to fix Youtube that keeps crashing on Samsung Galaxy Note 8 (easy steps)

Youtube is one of the mandatory apps Google requires Android manufacturers to integrate into their phones. So, if you have an Android device, expect it to have Youtube and other Google apps. It’s deeply integrated into the system and it seldom has issues like other third-party apps. However, we have readers who own the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 who’ve been complaining recently about the error message “Unfortunately, Youtube has stopped” which basically notifies users that the app crashed for some reason.

This isn’t the first time we encountered an issue like this. In fact, we’ve also experienced crashing issues wherein the app just closes on its own without apparent reason. Of course, one way to make things work smoothly in a phone with pretty high specifications like the Note 8 is to keep all apps updated. Google can push updates whenever it wants and most of the time when apps like Youtube are being updated, you will be prompted the moment you open it. In some cases however, instead of being prompted with an update, some owners are notified by an error and that’s what we have to address in this case. So, if you’re one of the owners of this great phone and are currently bugged by a similar problem, continue reading as I will share with you the solution for this issue.

Before going further, if you found this post because you were trying to find a solution to your problem, then try to visit our Galaxy Note 8 troubleshooting page as we’ve already addressed most of the commonly reported issues with the phone. We’ve already provided solutions to some of the problems reported by our readers so try to find issues that are similar with yours and use the solutions we suggested. How to fix Galaxy Note 8 with Youtube app that keeps crashing

YouTube video

When a default or pre-installed app crashes, more often, the problem is with the app itself and it’s pretty much easy to fix. However, there are times when the problem is with the firmware considering the fact that it’s embedded in the firmware. We know a method or two that could take care of this problem so continue reading…

First Solution: Reboot your Note 8

If it’s the first time that Youtube crashed, then don’t do anything that could potentially mess up settings in your phone. Instead, reboot your device to refresh its memory as well as reload all core services.

There are times when the firmware and apps glitch and while they may seem like a serious problem, they’re not; you can fix them with a simple reboot. So, hit that Power key and take a little time rebooting it. After that, open Youtube to know if the app still crashes and if it does, try the Forced Reboot procedure.

Press and hold the Volume Down button and the Power key together for 10 seconds. It will reboot your phone but during the process, the phone simulates battery disconnect. It’s effective against minor firmware glitches as well. If the problem occurs, then move on to the next step.

Second Solution: Clear cache and data of Youtube

By deleting Youtube’s cache and data you’re actually resetting the app back to its default settings. There are times when caches and data get corrupted and when it happens, the app’s performance might be affected and may result to unexpected crashes. This is how you do it:

  1. From a Home screen, touch and swipe up or down to display all apps.
  2. From a Home screen, navigate: Settings > Apps.
  3. Tap App Manager.
  4. Locate then tap Youtube.
  5. Tap Storage.
  7. Tap Cached data.
  8. Tap CLEAR.

This is the most effective solution to almost all app-related problems but then there’s no guarantee that it will work to all cases. So, in case the problem continues after this, then the next method will definitely fix the problem.

Third Solution: Backup your files and data and reset your phone

For every app-related problem, a reset is also very effective especially if the app in question is pre-installed. However, you will have to go through all the hassle of backing up your files and data. So transfer your files over to the SD card or your computer. After the backup, disable the Factory Reset Protection by removing your Google account from your phone so that you won’t be locked out of your device after the reset. Once everything is set and ready, follow these steps to reset your phone:

  1. Back up data on the internal memory. If you have signed into a Google account on the device, you have activated Anti-theft and will need your Google credentials to finish the Master reset.
  2. Turn off the device.
  3. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  4. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe data / factory reset.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.
