If these issues occur after the update, there is a possibility that this is just a software-related problem. It could be that some system caches got corrupted during the update process or there’s an app that affects the system’s performance. Try these things to see if you can make the phone to charge normally…

Charge the phone in Safe mode

Sometimes third-party apps may cause the phone not to charge properly. To rule out this possibility, run your phone in safe mode to temporarily disable all third-party apps. If the phone actually charges normally in this mode, find and uninstall third-party apps that you think are causing the problem.

This is how you run your phone in safe mode…

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen.
  3. When “SAMSUNG” appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  7. Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.

And this is how you uninstall apps from your phone…

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Apps tray.
  2. Tap Settings > Apps.
  3. Tap the desired application in the default list or tap 3 dots icon > Show system apps to display pre-installed apps.
  4. Tap the desired application.
  5. Tap Uninstall.
  6. Tap Uninstall again to confirm.

If your phone is still charging slow while in this mode or if the battery is still draining fast even when all third-party apps are temporarily disabled, then move on to the next step.

Wipe cache partition to delete possible corrupt caches

While system caches are small files, they can still affect your phone’s performance big time if they get corrupted. Slow charging and other charging issues may occur when there are caches that got corrupted. To rule out this possibility, follow these steps to wipe the cache partition…

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds, then ‘No command’ before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe cache partition”.
  5. Press Power button to select.
  6. Press the Volume down key to highlight “yes” and press the Power key to select.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

If the problems persists after doing this, then you really have to reset your phone to see if will bring the phone’s normal charging operation.

Create a backup for all your files and data and reset your phone

System issues may also lead to charging problems and since this issue occurred shortly after an update, there’s a big possibility that it’s really just an issue with the firmware. During an update, there are files that get deleted and replaced and this process is done automatically and often smoothly. But there are times when things get messed up that’s why you need to reset your phone at this point to know if there would be an effect because if there’s none, we can say it could be a hardware problem and in such case, you need help from a technician.

Now, before you reset, make sure you backup your files and data as they will be deleted then disable the factory reset protection. Once everything is set and ready, follow these steps to reset your device…

  4. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe data / factory reset.
  5. Press Power button to select.

  1. I literally did everything. Cleared my cache, operated in safe mode, and restored my phone. And my battery is still draining faster than charging.
