Problems like this are often limited to the app that’s having an issue. In other words, it’s a minor problem and it can easily be fixed. With that said, here are the solutions that we know work for this kind of issue…

First Solution: Reboot your Note 8

Before doing any troubleshooting procedures, it’s best that you reboot your Galaxy Note 8 because it’s possible this problem is just a glitch in the app or the system itself. A simple reboot sequence can actually do a lot of helpful things to your phone; it refreshes your device’s memory, closes all apps running in the background, restart all functions and services, etc.

But instead of doing the normal reboot sequence, I recommend you do the Forced Restart procedure which often addresses a lot of little problems. To do this, press and hold the Volume Down button and the Power key simultaneously for 10 seconds and your Note 8 will reboot normally. After this, open Netflix to know if it still shows the error, freezes or lags. If it does, then you must do the next method.

Second Solution: Clear cache and data of Netflix

Doing this will reset the app and delete its caches and data files. For most of the app-related problems, this is the kind of solution that will fix them. In fact, based on reports from our readers who have encountered similar issues in the past, clearing the cache and data is the best method you can use to get this problem sorted out and here’s how you do it:

  1. From a Home screen, touch and swipe up or down to display all apps.
  2. From a Home screen, navigate: Settings > Apps.
  3. Tap App Manager.
  4. Locate then tap Netflix.
  5. Tap Storage.
  6. Tap CLEAR CACHE.
  7. Tap Cached data.
  8. Tap CLEAR.
  9. Reboot your phone to refresh its memory.

After the reboot, open Netflix to test if the error still shows up or if the freezes and lags still happen. While there’s a possibility that this won’t fix the problem, more often than not it will and I hope that this is as far as you can go. But in any case that the problem continues to bug you, then do the next method.

Third Solution: Uninstall Netflix and reinstall it

I want you to do this to make sure that you have the latest version of Netflix on your Galaxy Note 8. I know updating the app would do the job but this one does the job better. By uninstalling the app, you’re removing all its components and associated files including possible corrupt ones. In other words, it removes all remnants of the app from your phone. After which, reinstall the app to make sure that you have the latest version. You may have to log into your Netflix account after doing it but that’s part of the setup.

  1. From a Home screen, touch and swipe up or down to display all apps.
  2. From a Home screen, navigate: Settings > Apps.
  3. Tap App Manager.
  4. Locate then tap Netflix.
  5. Tap UNINSTALL.
  6. Review the notification then tap OK to confirm.
  7. Reboot your phone to refresh it’s memory and other connections.

Now, to reinstall Pandora, follow these steps…

  1. From a Home screen, touch and swipe up or down to display all apps.
  2. Tap Play Store.
  3. Type ‘netflix’ in the search box.
  4. Select Netflix then tap Install.
  5. To continue, review the required app permissions then tap Accept.

In case the problem still continues after this, then the next step will definitely take care of the problem.

Fourth Solution: Backup all your files and data then Reset your phone

Yeah, this is the ultimate solution to any app-related problems and most of firmware issues you may encounter from time to time if you own an Android phone. Before doing the reset, make sure you backup all your important files and data then disable the Factory Reset Protection by removing your Google account from your phone so you won’t be locked out after the reset:

  1. Back up data on the internal memory. If you have signed into a Google account on the device, you have activated Anti-theft and will need your Google credentials to finish the Master reset.
  2. Turn off the device.
  3. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  4. When the green Android logo displays, release all keys (‘Installing system update’ will show for about 30 – 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight “wipe data / factory reset.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes — delete all user data’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.
