Facebook Messenger or simply Messenger is considered a third-party app. Even if Facebook comes pre-installed in your Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro, it doesn’t come with its messenger that’s why if you want to chat with your FB friends, you need to download this app from the Play Store and install it to your phone. How to fix Galaxy J7 Pro with Messenger that keeps crashing

The following are the most effective solutions to app-related problems you may encounter with your Galaxy J7 Pro…

First Solution: Reboot your phone

There’s more to reboot than just turning your phone off and back on again. It also refreshes your phone’s memory, closes all apps and services running in the background as well as reloads all core services and functions. You need to do this procedure because there’s a possibility that the problem is due to a minor glitch in the system or the app itself. It’s easy and safe to do, not to mention very effective. So, hit that Power key and reboot your phone.

After the reboot, open Messenger to know if it still crashes. If it does, then try doing the Forced Reboot procedure. It ‘power-shocks’ your phone and it simulates battery disconnect. During this sequence, electricity stored in capacitors are drained so your phone’s memory will be reset without deleting any of your data. To do this, press and hold the Volume Down button and the Power key at the same time for 10 seconds or more. Your phone may reboot normally and after which, try to use Messenger. If the problem continues, then move on to the next solution.

Second Solution: Reset Messenger

By reset, I mean clearing its cache and data. It will bring the app back to its default settings and it’s cache and some data files will be replaced with new ones. These processes will be done in the background and automatically so you don’t have to worry about it. All you need to do is follow these steps to reset Messenger:

  1. From a Home screen, touch and swipe up or down to display all apps.
  2. From a Home screen, navigate: Settings > Apps.
  3. Tap App Manager.
  4. Locate then tap Messenger.
  5. Tap Storage.
  6. Tap CLEAR CACHE.
  7. Tap Cached data.
  8. Tap CLEAR.

I know it’s a very simple procedure but it’s very effective in dealing with this specific problem. In fact, it might be the last thing you need to do about this issue. However, if by any chance the app still crashes after doing this, then move on to the next procedure.

Third Solution: Uninstall / reinstall Messenger

You do this instead of updating the app. When you update Messenger, you’re only replacing some files. It’s effective but not as effective as when you uninstall the app and reinstall it. By uninstalling, you will delete all the files created by the app itself as well as ones created by the system for the app. Aside from that, all its associations to some apps, services and features will also be removed. Here’s how you uninstall Messenger from  your Galaxy J7 Pro:

  1. From a Home screen, touch and swipe up or down to display all apps.
  2. From a Home screen, navigate: Settings > Apps.
  3. Tap App Manager.
  4. Locate then tap Messenger.
  5. Tap UNINSTALL.
  6. Review the notification then tap OK to confirm.
  7. Reboot your phone to refresh it’s memory and other connections.

After the reboot, it’s time you reinstall Messenger. This time, you can be sure that the app that runs on your phone is the latest version.

  1. From a Home screen, touch and swipe up or down to display all apps.
  2. Tap Play Store.
  3. Type ‘messenger’ in the search box.
  4. Select Messenger then tap Install.
  5. To continue, review the required app permissions then tap Accept.

That’s it! You should be able to use the app now without being greeted by the error and/or any other issues. I hope that our solutions work for you, if you have other concerns with your phone, feel free to contact us or leave a comment below.
