M8 Call, Text Issues

Problem: Hi, I recently purchased an unlocked HTC One M8 and everything is working fine, but I have a few issues. The first problem is with the microphone when I am calling people. If I am using the phone with no headset or if it’s on loudspeaker, the person on the call cannot hear me. I don’t have this issue when I call on Facebook messenger though. Also, if I have regular headphones in (that don’t have an inbuilt microphone) the person can still hear me. So that makes me think it isn’t a hardware issue as the microphone works provided any headphones are in. The second issue I am having is texting. I receive texts fine, but every couple of days my texts stop sending. A soft reset often fixes it, but sometimes I need to remove my SIM as well. It always fixes it (so far) but it happens so frequently that it is really irritating and I’m looking for a long term fix if possible. Thanks.

Solution: Several other owners of this phone have also reported a similar problem where the person they are calling could not hear them. The reason for this is because of the noise suppression feature of the microphone which was intended to improve call quality. This feature however has a negative effect on some units.

The first thing you need to do is to check for any software updates available for your phone. These updates come with improvements and bug fixes that may resolve the problem.

Once you have verified that your phone is running on the latest software version the next step that you should do is to check if your calls can be heard.

If you still can’t be heard then you might want to do a master reset on your phone. This procedure will also deal with your text sending issue. Just be sure to back up your data before proceeding.

  • Turn off device
  • Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then press and hold the POWER button.
  • Wait for the screen with the three Android images to appear, and then release the POWER and VOLUME DOWN buttons.
  • Press VOLUME DOWN to select FACTORY RESET, and then press the POWER button.

M8 Touch Screen Is Too Sensitive

Problem: I know that swiping up from any of the navigation keys opens Google Search. However, my phone seems to be hyper. Just touching on the “Back key” for more than a millisecond causes my default browser to open 2 or 3 instances of Google Search. The same with the “Recent App” key. The “Home” acts as it should. Even the keyboard goes crazy like it has a mind of its own. This happens with both my added keyboard and the stock keyboard. Any ideas on what is happening and/or how to stop it would be appreciated.

Solution: You might want to try to recalibrate your touchscreen for this type of issue.

  • Using two fingers swipe down on the status bar then touch the gear icon > Display & Gestures > G-Sensor calibration
  • Place your phone on a flat surface then touch Calibrate.
  • After the calibration process has finished tap Ok.

You should also calibrate the finger touch on your screen to deal with the keyboard issue.

  • Open “Settings” and go to “Language and Keyboard”
  • Tap “HTC Sense Input”
  • Tap “Advanced”
  • Tap “Calibration tool” (Calibrate your screen for a better touch experience)
  • Now you are asked to type the given sentence
  • One done, Calibration Complete message appears
  • Hit “Reset Calibration” to reset screen to factory default

If your phone has a screen protector try removing it as well as this may be interfering with the touch display.

Another thing to consider is that certain third party apps may be causing the problem. To verify if this is the case you should start your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the default apps are loaded while all third party apps downloaded from the Google Play Store are disabled.

  • Press and hold the Power button (located on the top edge of the device) until the ‘Phone options’ prompt appears then release.
  • Tap and hold Power off until the ‘Reboot to safe mode’ prompt appears then release.
  • From the ‘Reboot to safe mode’ prompt, tap RESTART to confirm.
  • Allow approximately 1 minute for the process to complete.
  • Upon reboot, ‘Safe mode’ appears in the lower left of the unlock/home screen.

If the problem disappears then it’s likely that it is caused by one of the apps that has been disabled. Find out what that app is and uninstall it.

M8 Camera Issue

Problem: I saw your post on drippler and saw someone else that may have the same issue as I do with blurred image but to clarify please read all of this, I had taken pics and noticed quality was starting to deteriorate so I decided to clean the lens I took my phone out of its otterbox case and took windex and sprayed it on a cloth then wiped it with just damp cloth and got it pretty clean but it has scratches from cleaning with my shirt from time to time on the outer edge later that day I tried to

take a video and all I got was blur so I switched to camera and noticed same thing but what I found was the phone was vibrating constantly and making a crackling noise from the camera area, I found this only happens on rear camera and video and when I switch to front selfie camera it stops and takes clear photos and soon as I switch back same issue … Thanks in advance

Solution: From the way you described the problem it appears that this may already be a hardware issue. The crackling noise that you hear from your rear camera area is a hardware component that needs to move in order for your camera to zoom. The noise is an indication that there is a problem with the movement. If it can’t zoom properly then photos will come out blurred. You might want to bring your phone to an authorized service center for repair.

Just to be on the safe side you should also consider the possibility that this may be a software related issue. To verify if this is the case you should do a factory reset on the phone. Just make sure to back up your data first.

M8 Network Problems

Problem: I have recently bought a HTC ONE M8, after putting the sim card into the phone it doesn’t pick up any signal and shows the message ‘Limited Service’. The same sim card when put in other mobile phones it works fine, gets full signal. After having cross checked using a couple sim cards in few other phones and in the M8 I have, I am sure that the problem is with the phone not the sim card. Sometimes after restarting the phone it picks up signal and this signal will be available for sometime and gets back to no signal status (‘Limited Service’). This time for which signal will be available is random. After restarting sometimes the signal comes up and goes nil (‘Limited Service’) within few minutes and sometimes the signal goes nil (‘Limited Service’) after 4-5 days. Please help me out with this issue. Thank You.

Solution: Since you have verified the SIM card you are using on the M8 can indeed get a good signal when inserted on another phone then the problem may be hardware related. Try using your phone outside of your house and see if you are still getting the “limited service” message. If you are then you might want to bring your phone to an authorized service center for checking.

M8 Mobile Data Not Connecting

Problem: So I’ve had this phone for a couple of months now with no issues but for some reason, the mobile data on the phone has suddenly stopped working. I still get 4G signal but the phone is just not connecting to the internet, I still have about 1GB of data usage left for the month as well. The phone still works completely fine over Wi-Fi, so any ideas why it won’t work using the mobile data?

Solution: You should first verify with your network provider if your account can still actively connect to mobile data. Once you have done this try to check the mobile data settings of your phone and see if changes have been made. If you have a copy of the correct settings you can delete the old APN settings and manually re-enter it. You could also contact the technical support group of your network to assist you in getting the settings to your phone.
