The Verge is the company’s latest smartwatch and comes with all the features that you could expect. It’s meant to be a complete smartwatch + activity tracker, and thanks to the decent battery life, it can compete with some of the best in the business.

Amazfit GTS vs Verge : Design

While the Amazfit GTS comes with a non-conventional square display, it bears the advantage of being the bigger of the two, even in terms of display real estate. It’s extremely light thanks at 24.8 grams to the aluminum body. The company supplies the smartwatch with a standard Silicone (Sport) watchband, though there are a variety of third-party bands available on online marketplaces. The GTS has dimensions of 43.25 x 36.25 x 9.4mm.

The Verge, being the newer of the two, has the advantage of bearing a refined design. It comes with a circular display as we mentioned above, though it’s significantly heavier than the GTS at 46 grams. The manufacturer hasn’t specified the quality of materials used in its making, though it’s likely that it’s Stainless Steel. The wearable has partial dimensions of 70mm and 113mm though there’s no official data on the thickness.

The Verge is somewhat lacking in terms of available color options as the company only offers the wearable in Gray and Blue colors. There aren’t a lot of choices with regard to band options either, though users are likely to find replacement bands on online marketplaces.

The Amazfit GTS comes in a variety of colors including Silver, Pink, Black, Blue, and Gray. Naturally, there is a wide range of watch bands to choose from as well, and replacing them is fairly easy.

The circular display toting Amazfit Verge has a 1.3-inch AMOLED panel with a resolution of 360 x 360. Moreover, the watch also comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection and oleophobic coating for resistance against scratches and fingerprints. Though the smaller display means there are lesser onscreen widgets you can place, it’s a valid trade-off for many.

The Amazfit GTS has a significantly bigger 1.65-inch AMOLED panel with an improved resolution of 348 x 442 which offers a pixel density of 341PPI. There’s Corning Gorilla Glass 3 present on this wearable as well, along with the inclusion of anti-fingerprint coating. Though the display tech as well as the screen protection is exactly the same, the fact that the GTS has a bigger display gives it a significant advantage in this area.

One of the crucial features of the GTS is the inclusion of a PPG heart-rate sensor. The company mentions that this is powered by RealBeats AI biological data engine which can help detect arrhythmia as well as atrial fibrillation.​ This also includes the ability to monitor your heart-rate throughout the day.

The Verge also comes with a handy PPG-based heart-rate sensor, though it doesn’t carry the ability to detect heart conditions. However, it can notify users whenever there’s a spike in your heart-rate, thus allowing you to take necessary precautions.

Both wearables also come with Gyroscope, a Geomagnetic sensor, and even an air pressure sensor, so they’re pretty packed as far as essential sensors are concerned.

Amazfit GTS vs Verge : Internal Features

This is an area where both smartwatches perform fairly decently. In terms of the Verge, it comes with a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor as per the official specs sheet. This is accompanied by 512MB of RAM, and 4GB of native storage.

Much like the Verge, the GTS also comes with 4GB of internal storage and 512MB of RAM for apps within the watch. However, the manufacturer hasn’t shared details on what processor the watch uses, though it’s likely comparable to the Verge.

Given that fitness features are front and center on modern-day wearables, the company has been mindful enough to include 5ATM protection on the GTS. This basically allows you to swim at depths of up to 50 meters without damaging the smartwatch.

The Amazfit Verge, on the other hand, comes with IP68 certification, which can also handle swimming in pools and other shallow surfaces, though it may not be compatible with deep-sea diving.

One new feature that Amazfit has added with the Verge is Alexa compatibility. This means you can use your smartwatch to control all Alexa connected smart appliances, home cameras, speakers, and so on. It’s worth mentioning that almost every Alexa function works with the wearable including voice commands.

Unfortunately, this feature is missing from the GTS mostly due to the fact that it was launched much before the Verge. While future Amazfit smartwatches are likely to come with this feature built-in, as it stands, the Verge has the upper hand in terms of features.

Amazfit GTS vs Verge : Battery

Though battery life is not too bad on either wearable, the differences are significant. For example, Amazfit mentions that the GTS can run for 14 days at a time using the 220 mAh battery. However, this is contingent on the user not accessing GPS. With GPS on at all times, the wearable can only run for 25 hours. Fully recharging the GTS should take under 3 hours.

As for the Verge, it comes with a 390 mAh battery, which is bigger on paper but can only last for up to 4 to 5 days on a single charge. This is somewhat disappointing given the incredible battery life enjoyed by the GTS. The Verge can fully charge from 0 to 100% in around 2 and a half hours.

The Amazfit GTS can work with Android smartphones running version 5.0 and up, while iPhone users can use the wearable as long as they have iOS 10 or above.

The Verge is also compatible with the same set of Android and iOS devices, so there’s not much to differentiate between the two in this regard.

Though both wearables come with some form of Android by default, they’re not based on Google’s Wear OS. Instead, it uses a customized version that allows the company to offer unique widgets and other features that are unavailable on Wear OS.

While taking a closer glimpse at the internal features may have made the decision easier for a few, it’s not that simple. While it’s clear that the Amazfit GTS misses out on a few features that we see with the Verge, there’s no denying that it still has the better hardware on paper.

There’s no specificity on speed differences between the two variants, but they’re tailored to run apps within the wearable, so it all comes down to physical appearance as well as the display size.

While many fear a 1.65-inch AMOLED panel may be relatively large, that’s not quite the case. However, the circular display of the Amazfit Verge is certainly more appealing and fits almost every wrist out there.
