Here’s what you have to do if Messenger closes when launched

App-related problems are always easy to fix, especially if you’re dealing with a third part application. Nevertheless, you have to be thorough so as to diagnose the problem accurately and not lose some of your files and data. With that being said, this is how you fix this problem:

First solution: Perform the Forced restart

The first thing that you have to do if this is the first time seeing this error is the forced restart because it could be just a minor glitch in the system. Glitches happen all the time and app crashes are among the most common results. The forced restart will refresh your phone’s memory and reload all the applications and services. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet.
  2. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well.
  3. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy A10 logo shows on the screen.

Once the phone has successfully rebooted, try to launch the app and see if messenger closes as soon as it’s launched. If it still does, then move on to the next solution.

Second solution: Clear the cache and data of Messenger app

Clearing the cache and data of an app will result in a reset. In the case of the Messenger app, none of your messages will be deleted as they’ll remain in facebook servers. So this procedure is safe and effective, especially if this is a problem with the app only. This is how you do it:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  2. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
  3. Scroll to and then tap Apps.
  4. Find and tap Messenger.
  5. Tap Storage.
  6. Touch Clear cache.
  7. Touch Clear data and then tap OK to confirm.

After doing this, launch the app to see if messenger closes still the moment it’s opened. If it does, then move on to the next solution.

Third solution: Uninstall Messenger and reinstall it

This procedure is far more effective than just updating the app as it will remove the app and all its files completely from your device. This also removes all its associations with the firmware and other apps, and reinstalling it will make sure you’re using the latest version of the app. Again, if this is just an issue with the app, this procedure must be able to fix it. Here’s how you uninstall Messenger:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  2. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
  3. Scroll to and then tap Apps.
  4. Find and tap Messenger.
  5. Tap Storage.
  6. Touch Clear data and tap OK to confirm.
  7. Tap the back key once and then touch Uninstall.
  8. Confirm that you want to remove the app from your phone.

And this is how  you reinstall it…

  1. From the home screen, pull up the app drawer.
  2. Find and then tap Google Play Store.
  3. In the search field, key in ‘messenger’ and then hit search.
  4. Tap Messenger and then touch Install.
  5. Once the installation is complete, tap Open.

Most of the time, these procedures are enough to make the app work perfectly again and get rid of the error ‘Messenger keeps stopping.’ However, if for some reason the problem continues after this, then you have no other choice but to reset your device.

Fourth solution: Master reset your phone

At this point, a master reset will be necessary because the problem could already be with the firmware. A reset should be able to fix app issues no matter the nature of the problem. However, make sure to create a copy of your important files and data as they will all be deleted during the process. After the backup, remove your google account so that you won’t be locked out of your device. When ready, follow these steps to reset your phone:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up and Power keys.
  3. When the Galaxy A10 logo shows, release all three keys.
  4. Your Galaxy A10 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.

When the reset is finished, set up your phone as a new device and enjoy.
