Verizon Changing All Of Their Plans August 13th

After years of maintaining that they would keep 2-year contracts and different plans for families and individuals, Verizon is finally changing that. Starting August 13th, everything is changing.

First of all, there will be only four data plans available to anyone, whether they are part of an individual or family account. Secondly, smartphone subsidies will cease to exist, with customers now being able to either sign up with an installment plan or buy a phone outright. There will be no more 2-year contracts.

Any smartphone lines will cost $20 per month, tablets and jetpacks will cost $10 per month, and other devices like smartwatches will be $5 per month, in addition to any installment plans. Here are the new data plans themselves that will become the remaining options after August 13th:

• Small: $30/month for 1GB of shareable data
• Medium: $45/month for 3GB of shareable data
• Large: $60/month for 6GB of shareable data
• X-Large: $80/month for 12GB of shareable data

The data can be shared with up to 10 devices. Verizon also says that:

“New Verizon customers who want to take advantage of the new plan may do so by buying a new smartphone using Verizon’s device payment option, formerly known as Verizon Edge, or by paying the retail price. Current customers can keep their existing plan or move to the new plan, with some restrictions.”

Customers will also get “a simpler and more streamlined bill, making it easier to see and understand monthly charges.” So essentially, Verizon Edge is the only way you will be able to get a new phone, unless you want to buy it outright. New customers will automatically be put into these plans and people on older ones can choose to change if they want to.

With these changes, Verizon now nearly mirrors T-Mobile’s options, except that Verizon customers will have one pool of data between them instead of separate pools per line. What do you think of Verizon’s changes to their plans?
