Step by step Guide in fixing Samsung Galaxy A50 that keeps freezing

My Samsung Galaxy A50 is doing pretty good and is very responsive. I never actually encountered issues with it. However, some of our readers reported because they have encountered some performance issues with it. The most common issue is when the phone keeps freezing for no apparent reason or cause.

Random freezes are pretty annoying because you don’t know when the problem would occur and when it does, you cannot use your phone for a few seconds because it becomes unresponsive. Such problem can be attributed to the firmware and it doesn’t necessarily mean that your device has a serious issue.

How to fix Galaxy A50 that keeps freezing

As long as the firmware of your phone hasn’t been modified in any way, you should be able to fix it without having to take a trip back to the store. However, if you installed a custom ROM, then try to re-flash the stock firmware and maybe that would fix the problem. But assuming that the firmware in your device is still stock, then follow these steps to fix the problem…

First solution: Perform the Forced Restart

The first thing you need to do when you’re trying to fix a phone with a possible firmware issue is to perform the forced reboot. It’s a simulated battery removal that refreshes your phone’s memory as well as reloads all its apps and services. If this is just due to a minor firmware issue, then this will fix the problem. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet.
  2. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well.
  3. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy A50 logo shows on the screen.

Once your Galaxy A50 has successfully restarted, try to see if it still keeps freezing from time to time. If it still does, then move on to the next solution.

Second solution: Run your phone in Safe mode

There are applications that may also cause the phone to freeze from time to time. In fact, we have encountered similar issues in the past that were caused by some apps. You need to rule this possibility out before you proceed. So, restart your phone in safe mode to temporarily disable all third-party applications. Here’s how…

  1. Press and hold the Power key until options show.
  2. Tap and hold the Power off option until it changes into Safe Mode.
  3. Tap the Safe mode icon to restart your device.
  4. Once the reboot is successful, you should see ‘Safe mode’ at the lower-left corner of the screen.

While in this mode, try to see if your phone still keeps freezing. If the problem is fixed, then it means that there’s an app that’s causing the problem. Follow these steps to probe further:

  1. Restart your phone normal to boot into standard mode.
  2. Remember the apps you installed about the time when the phone starts to keep freezing.
  3. Once you already have an app in mind, swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  4. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
  5. Scroll to and then tap Apps.
  6. Find and tap suspected app.
  7. Tap Storage.
  8. Touch Clear data and tap OK to confirm.
  9. Tap the back key once and then touch Uninstall.
  10. Confirm that you want to remove the app from your phone.

However, if your Galaxy A50 still keeps freezing even in safe mode, then move on to the next solution.

Third solution: Reset all Settings to fix phone that keeps freezing

There are times when some settings in your phone are changed and triggers issues like this from time to time. It’s difficult to remember or determine which of the settings have to be corrected. Therefore, it’s best to just reset all settings at once. This covers every setting in your device and you don’t have to worry about your files and data as they will not be deleted. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  2. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
  3. Scroll to and tap General management.
  4. Touch Reset.
  5. Tap Reset settings.
  6. Tap the Reset settings button.
  7. If prompted, enter your PIN, Password or Pattern.
  8. Finally, tap Reset.

Your phone will restart after doing this and once it has successfully rebooted, try to see if your phone still keeps freezing because if it does, then it’s time to troubleshoot the firmware.
