S9 Has Faint Notification Icons Even When Screen Is Black
Problem: Hey guys i have a Samsung S9 and recently im having the most annoying issue! I think it’s a feature not a bug but i can’t seem to come up with accurate enough search terms to find online how to turn it off. it seems to have just started since a recent update… basically, when my phone is asleep on the table/charging or whatever. the screen is black but it shows, very faintly, white icons for notifications at the top, so there might be a battery charging symbol or a gmail icon with a couple numbers if i’ve received some emails. it’s like an always on display with just notifications, but it is definitely not the AOD because i know what that is, and this isn’t it. in fact, when i turn on the AOD this glitch seems to go away, but i don’t like the AOD for various reasons. for ages this has been fine but this week ive started getting this, yeah, weird black screen with faint notifications. when i lock my phone, the screen goes black and the battery charging LED comes on (if its on charge) but then within seconds, the LED turns off and the faint notifications rear their ugly head. i wouldn’t mind so much but when i then press a button to wake up my phone, instead of going to my lock screen, it returns to the true black screen with LED light on. i then have to press unlock a second time to bring myself to the lock screen, before i can finally enter my pin and unlock the phone i hope that’s enough info for you to help me, what’s going on!?!?! thanks in advance, notified and confused
Solution: Just to make sure that this is not caused by the Always On display feature of the phone you should make sure that this feature is turned off. This can be done by going to Settings > Lock Screen & Security > Always On Display > make sure that the switch is OFF. In case it is already off and the issue still occurs you need to check if the issue still occurs when the phone is running in Safe Mode. if the problem does not occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
If the problem still occurs even in Safe Mode then I recommend that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
If the above steps fails to fix the problem then the problem might be a screen burn issue. You need to have this checked at a service center to identify what really is causing this problem.
S9 Flickering Screen After Drop
Problem: I got the new samsung galaxy s9, had it about a month and the phone slipped off my leg and hit the floor screen down landed on stones and on the screen where the keyboard is between the O and P is where the screen is cracked there’s a black circle where it impacted the fall so I’m assuming the pixels are dead. The crack goes out from there up to the top of the phone and down to the bottom of the phone, I’ve noticed a few times a pink and a green line have gone from top to bottom where the black circle is (my wallpaper is pink that’s when I had a pink line, then j had a greenish blue wallpaper and that’s when I had the green line) but since these have disappeared I have noticed sometimes where the keyboard is supposed to be that part of the screen will go bright (and I mean bright even if I turn the screen brightness down the green part is still bright) green, and sometimes it flashes/flickers. A few days ago it done the same thing and the whole screen went black and wouldn’t come back on, it has come back on as normal now but every so often it will do the flickering/flashing green thing. I’m supposed to be getting the phone repaired soon like in a few days but I don’t know how to make it stop doing this in the meantime.
Solution: Because the screen has a crack there is no band aid solution to the flickering green screen issue that you are experiencing with the device. The best thing to do right now is to bring the phone to a service center and have the display assembly replaced.
S9 Keeps Rebooting And Freezing
Problem: Samsung Galaxy S9 keeps rebooting and freezing after last android update. I am in France, I the phone company free. It was working like a charm before best phone I’ve ever had. It’s now hardly working since the last update, this is a pity. Reminds me of a similar issue with an earlier version, in which an aggressive energy optimization was identified as the cause. It seems this new version tried again to optimize the energy (that is announced in the release notes) and may have reintroduced previous bugs. Removing the SD card as recommended on this page does not seem to fix the problem. Furthermore, but are you supposed to do once the card is removed? put it back? reformat? It’s a 128GB SD card (Samsung), with lots of data, I’d rather not reformat it for no reason. I am totally convinced this is the aggressive energy optimization bug again. Obviously the regression test was not implemented or neglected. Not sure were to report such android bugs. I am reluctant to try a hard-reset: have you had positive feedback about trying it? I really wish I could just roll back version, but it seems very complicated. And after update, most my apps have started to get updated. If I try to roll-back to the older version, will those app all be broken? Thanks for any help, I really need that phone back!
Solution: If the issue does not occur with the SD card removed then this card is most likely causing the problem. You can either reformat the card or replace it with a new one. Since you are experiencing the same problem with the card removed then this could be caused by a software glitch. I recommend that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install any apps in your phone yet. Try to check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then I recommend that you have this checked at a service center.
