S7 Screen Goes Black

Problem: When the phone is open in anything, if I don’t touch the screen after 5-6 seconds the screen turns gray then goes black. Hitting the power button brings it back on. It is set to go off after 10 min of no activity. I’ve done the reboot and the safe mode and still have the problem.

Solution: The first thing that you will need to do in this case is to check the phone screen timeout settings.

  • Swipe down from the top of the screen. This will pull down the Notification Shade.
  • Tap the Settings gear button.
  • Tap Display.
  • Tap Screen Timeout.
  • Tap to select the length of inactivity you want your screen to timeout at. Try changing this to 2 minutes.

In case the issue persists even with the timeout set at 2 minutes then I recommend that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. This will allow you to check if the problem is caused by a glitch in the phone system.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then you will have to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

S7 Screen Turns Black Randomly

Problem: Screen turns black randomly. The phone stays on and acts like nothing has changed, you can still hear the sound if you were watching a video, can press the buttons to take a screenshot, you feel the haptic feedback, etc.. Eventually if you wait for it to inactive to lock you can them wake it back up and open it again, until next time. It seems to maybe not do it when plugged in but haven’t been able to fully rule that out. It also tends to do it when the screen changes, so opening a new app, going from scrolling text to following a link to a video etc… It seemed to start right after the latest android update.

Related Problem: I haven’t drop or get my phone wet. Today while making a phone call il felt so i look at it and the screen started to change to a blue and pink colors. Now is getting black and I can’t see anything. It started to go on its on without me touching any buttons.

Solution: What you will want to do right now is to first check if the problem is caused by an app you downloaded. To do this just start the phone in Safe Mode. When the phone operates in this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run. If the problem does not occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the problem still occurs even in Safe Mode then I suggest that you backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Do not install any apps yet after the reset instead try to check if the problem still occurs. If it does then you will need to have this checked at a service center as this could be caused by a faulty hardware component.

S7 Screen Is Black With Blue Notification LED Light Blinking After Drop

Problem: Dropped my S7 from a table (about 3.5ft) onto a wood laminate floor. phone had an expensive highly protective UAG cover on it. (have dropped it on many occasions on streets, marble etc from higher heights but there was absolutely no damage to the phone ever) phone has a tempered glass protector as well. phone has absolutely no dents, scratches or hardware issues. I didn’t think too much of dropping it from a short height like this but when i picked it up the screen was black and flickering white lines which later stopped. It is now a blank screen and there’s a blue notification light on 24/7. I plan on getting the Samsung Galaxy S9. Before my phone was damaged, they were willing to give me $150 credit, but now they won’t give me anything for the phone. I have a feeling that it’s just a broken connection inside the phone but am not sure. I’m a student short on cash so the 150 credit makes a big difference. What would you recommend me do? I don’t want to spend too much. just want to get the screen working again so i can trade it in. What’s your opinion/recommendation?

Solution: You should try doing a simulate battery pull first. This is done by pressing and holding both power and volume down buttons for at least 10 seconds. Make sure to remove the microSD card of the phone when you do this. Your phone should restart after this. If it doesn’t then try accessing the recovery mode and if the screen works in this mode I recommend that you do a factory reset. Take note that the reset will erase your phone data.

If the issue persists then you will have to bring this to a service center and have it checked since this is most likely a hardware related problem already.
