LG V20 Only Turns On When Plugged To Charger

Problem: Phone is unstable, rebooting spontaneously. It typically will not power on unless connected to charger. I have noticed that the battery only charges to 88% and if taken off the charger will only run for a couple of minutes max before it either powers down or reboots. Device is a V20.

Solution: There’s a possibility that the problem is already caused by a faulty battery. You can get the battery which usually costs $40 from the LG website. Before placing the order you should consider doing a factory reset on your phone to eliminate the possibility of this being caused by a software glitch.

If the issue still persists even with a new battery and after doing a factory reset then this might already be caused by a faulty hardware component, possibly the power IC. The best  thing you can do right now is to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

LG V20 Battery Drains Quickly

Problem: Hey guys, I have been having trouble lately with charging my phone and what it shows. I charge it until it says 100%, then I unplug it. Then I pick up the phone a few minutes later to do something, and it says 90%. I reboot the phone and it say 76%. It’s done this several times lately where, within just a few minutes, it will jump around from saying 90% to 83% to 100%. Or any variation of numbers. It can’t seem to decide how charged it actually is. Any idea what I can do??

Solution: The first thing you will need to do is to make sure that the problem is not caused by an app you installed in the phone. To do this just start the phone in Safe Mode.

  • With the phone turned on press and hold the Power key.
  • In the options menu that displays, press and hold Power off.
  • You will be prompted to restart in Safe Mode, tap OK.
  • When your device restarts, it displays Safe mode at the bottom of the screen.

If the problem does not occur in this mode then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the problem still occurs then the next step is to do a factory reset to eliminate the possibility of this being caused by a software glitch. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

In case the above steps fails to fix the problem then this is most likely caused by a faulty battery. I suggest you order a new battery from the LG website which you should use to replace the old battery in your phone.

LG V20 Randomly Rebooting

Problem: I’ve tried the soft reset and still have the problem. My V20 just started rebooting itself about a month ago. Then I noticed the battery would say about 58 percent and then would reboot again and say 1 percent. Also now when I’m charging it does not fast charge. I am using the charger it came with. It fast charges my brothers phone fine. Maybe replace the battery? THANKS!

Solution: If your phone has a microSD card installed then remove it first before proceeding with the troubleshooting steps listed below.

The first thing you will want to do is to start the phone in Safe Mode then check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn’t then it could be caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

In case the issue still occurs even in Safe Mode then proceed with the additional troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air.
  • Try using a different charging cord and wall charger to charge the phone.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
  • Get a new battery.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.

LG V20 Is Not Responding

Problem: Hi, i have been having problems turning on my phone, i don’t know what is happening since i haven’t dropped it or got it wet. I charged my phone up to 99 percent and checked three times to see what it was at but on the third it said 100% but was still red. I took it off charge by turning the plug off then pulling out the charger but when i tried to turn it on it stayed black. I have tried all of the resets and stuff yet no response.

Solution: Try removing the battery from the phone then press and hold the power button for at least a minute. Reinsert the battery then check if the phone will turn on. If it doesn’t then this could already be caused by a faulty hardware component. The best thing to do right now is to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
